Your role with us

As a nurse on the neuro care unit (NCU), you’ll care for patients with complex neurological conditions from strokes and spinal injuries to brain tumors and Parkinson’s disease on a telemetry level unit recognized for excellence by the Joint Commission. You’ll receive specialized training, work closely with expert navigators and physicians, and benefit from Salem Health’s “Care in Place” model, which allows you to follow patients through their entire stay. What you'll do

  • Perform comprehensive, age-appropriate assessments and communicate findings to the healthcare team.
  • Develop individualized care plans considering medical, cultural, social, and developmental factors.
  • Deliver nursing interventions in alignment with policies, patient needs, and care goals, including emergency response.
  • Involve patients and families in care, promote self-care, and support education based on learning readiness.
  • Accurately document all aspects of patient care, including assessments, interventions, education, and outcomes.
  • Communicate clearly and effectively using SBAR, providing timely updates and coordinating with the team.
  • Demonstrate leadership through evidence-based practice, mentoring, and effective charge nurse responsibilities.

  • Manage time and resources efficiently, including cross-training, floating, and maintaining supply levels.

Required qualifications

  • Bachelor of Science (BSN) or Bachelor of Arts degree in nursing, or non-nursing bachelor's degree with a Master of Science in nursing (MSN). Candidates with an associate's degree in nursing (ADN) and graduates of a diploma RN program are also encouraged to apply; ADN applicants with less than five years of acute care experience will be required to sign an agreement committing to complete their BSN or MSN degree within three years of hire.
  • Basic Life Support (BLS).
  • Current unencumbered licensure to practice nursing as a Registered Nurse in the State of Oregon.
  • Less than one year of RN staff nurse experience.
