A Brief Overview

The division is designed to accommodate provide medical care to patients who are immunocompromised. This includes care for babies, children, teens and young adults with cancer and blood disorders. A range of services and an individualized treatment plan are provided and treatment tailored for the specific cancer type and stage, and to meet the patient’s unique needs. 

 

Common patient diagnoses include:   

Leukemia 

Basal cell carcinoma 

Sickle cell anemia  

Skin cancer  

Bone cancer  

 

What You Will Do
 

Provides safe efficient age specific nursing care to patients/families using the nursing process in order to assist them to attain, maintain, regain, and sustain optimal health status.

  • Implements the nursing process by delivering effective relationship based nursing care.
  • Demonstrates technical skills in care delivery that result in safe practice and positive care outcomes.
  • Demonstrates clear communication and effective collaboration to optimize patient care and clinical operations.
  • Develops self and contributes to the professional practice of nursing.
  • Displays leadership that influences optimal clinical and operational outcomes.

Location: Hematology Oncology Center Pay Range: $26.54 - $49.29 Job Description Summary: Provides safe, accurate and efficient patient care, including but not limited to: patient assessment, review of labs and vital signs, medication safety, dose verification, and drug administration. Follows all Job Breakdown Instructions (JBIs) associated with role. Provides triage care when necessary. Communicates patient condition effectively to multidisciplinary team members. Key Performance Areas: Safely and accurately administer chemotherapy, immunotherapy, biotherapy, supportive care, and non-oncologic agents to patients as ordered by providers. Will use Oncology Nurse’s Society (ONS) standards and guidelines. Accurate and safe disposal of biohazardous waste, per OSHA and NIOSH guidelines. Responsible for new and ongoing patient education, continual patient assessment, and support. Documentation: Thorough, accurate and timely documentation in the Electronic Medical Record (EMR) of treatment rendered to patients. Ensure appropriate charges are captured by following guidelines for appropriate administration of all medications and activities. Will follow proper patient identification per JBI for all patient encounters. Teaching: Educate patients and caregivers about medications, side effects and planned treatment course. Interact with patient and family in a caring, professional manner.
