Mountain View Hospital is looking for a Certified Scrub Tech to join our team!

JOB SUMMARY:

Provides direct patient care consistent with the unit’s standards of care. Meets the communication needs of the patient/family, departmental staff and medical staff. Demonstrates basic computer knowledge. Prepares and compiles patient records. Initiates directions from physician and nursing staff. Participates in performance improvement activities and quality assurance activities. Maintains regulatory agency requirements, nursing and hospital policies, procedures and standards. Demonstrates performance consistent with the mission, philosophy, and goals of the unit and organization; remains flexible to changing systems; is expected to demonstrate quality and effectiveness in work habit; and treats staff, physicians, patients, and families with considerations and respect.

SPECIFIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

SCRUB TECH

  1. Stocks patient rooms and carts/drawers.
  2. Commutates appropriately and clearly to charge nurse, co-workers, and physicians.
  3. Consults other departments, as appropriate, to provide for an interdisciplinary approach to the patient’s needs.
  4. Assists RN’s and LPN’s with patient care activities such as bathing, feeding, walking, changing positions, oral hygiene, newborn screenings, hearing screenings or other tasks requested.
  5. Assist RNs and LPN’s with housekeeping duties.
  6. Assists Nurse Supervisor and Manager as requested.
  7. Documents patient data in appropriate computer/paper system.
  8. Vital signs on a stable patient.
  9. Emptying drains and foley bags and reporting results to assigned nurse. Keeps accurate intake and output.
  10. Retrieves all lab results and prenatal records from computer and brings the results to the attention of the charge nurse.
  11. Takes specimens to the laboratory.
  12. Demonstrates and ability to be flexible, organized, and functions under stressful and emergent situations.
  13. Treats patients and their families with respect and dignity.
  14. Interact professionally with patient/family and provides explanations and verbal reassurance.
  15. Maintains a good working relationship both within the department and with other departments.
  16. Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly.
  17. Proficient in hearing screening protocols.
  18. Proficient in newborn screening protocols.
  19. Ability to operate newborn safety system (HUGS).
  20. Answers telephone/intercom in a timely and polite matter stating name and department and communicates information to the appropriate personnel/family.
  21. Prepares paper medical records for discharged patients and new admissions.
  22. Admits patients when admission personnel are not available. Both mom and baby as needed.
  23. Notifies appropriate nursing staff to assist patient/physician in the care of the patient.
  24.  Logs all patients in the computer system upon admission, delivery, transfer, or discharge.
  25. Is able to use the Nurse Call System. Answers patient call lights and responds quickly and appropriately.
  26. Is able to enter report information for report sheet into the computer and print out for the unit report.
  27. Is able to use the computer system to locate and print out policies and procedures.
  28. Performs other related duties as assigned or requested.
  29. Rotates from desk and floor assignment.

Education/Certifications: Current Scrub Tech Certification (CST) Required. Current BLS certification within 14 days of hire and renewal as required. Knowledge of medical terminology, or must complete terminology course or within six (6) months of hire. 

Experience: Previous CST experience preferred.

Equipment/Technology: Competent in Excel, Word, Spreadsheet, and PowerPoint.

Language/Communication: Must have the ability to effectively read, write, and speak English.

Mathematical Skills: Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference and fundamentals of plane and solid geometry. Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios and proportions to practical situations.

Mental Capabilities: Able to multi-task and function at a high level with accuracy and efficiency. Ability to define problems, collect data, establish facts and draw valid conclusions. Ability to interpret and extensive variety of technical instructions in mathematical or diagram form and deal with several abstract and concrete variables.

Interpersonal: Able to work well with others.

Performance: The ability to work efficiently and effectively without close supervision. Knowledge of office support functions, including word processing, filing, receptions, gathering and compiling data, and balancing and coordinating a workload involving multiple projects and clients. Able to maintain confidentiality. Able to complete a variety of tasks.  Able to deal with difficult client situations and emergencies in a calm and professional manner.
