Labor, Delivery, Recovery, Post Partum (LDRP) Registered Nurse The LDRP Registered Nurse (RN) provides comprehensive, patient-centered care to women and their families throughout the childbirth continuum, including labor, delivery, recovery, postpartum, and Level II neonatal care. Embracing the LDRP model of care, the RN ensures a seamless and supportive experience from labor through postpartum, fostering a strong mother-baby dyad (mother-baby pair). The LDRP - RN demonstrates clinical expertise, critical thinking skills, compassion, and effective communication to ensure optimal outcomes for mothers and newborns. LDRP RN Roles and Responsibilities: Assessment: Conducts comprehensive assessments of the laboring mother, including fetal monitoring, pain management, and maternal vital signs. Assesses newborns immediately after birth, ensuring proper identification, Apgar scoring, and initiation of necessary care. Care Planning: Develops individualized care plans based on patient assessments and collaborates with the healthcare team to ensure continuity of care. Labor Support: Provides continuous labor support, including emotional support, education, and guidance on various comfort measures and pain management techniques. Delivery Assistance: Assists with vaginal deliveries and cesarean sections, including acting as a second assist to the physician. Prepares and maintains sterile fields, administers medications as ordered, and provides immediate postpartum care to both mother and newborn. Recovery and Postpartum Care: Monitors mothers and newborns during the recovery period. Assists with breastfeeding or formula feeding. Provides education on newborn care. Addresses any concerns or complications Newborn Care Provides expert care for newborns, including routine screenings, vaccinations, and monitoring for jaundice and other common neonatal conditions. Facilitates early skin-to-skin contact to promote bonding and breastfeeding success. Supports parents in understanding and responding to their newborn's cues and needs. Level II NICU Care: Provides specialized care for newborns requiring Level II NICU interventions, including respiratory support, intravenous therapy, and feeding assistance. Monitors vital signs, administers medications, and performs procedures as ordered by the neonatologist or neonatal nurse practitioner. Educates parents on the specialized care their newborn is receiving and fosters a supportive environment for the family. Medication Administration: Administers medications safely and accurately, adhering to hospital protocols and physician orders. Documentation: Maintains accurate and comprehensive documentation of all patient care activities, including assessments, interventions, and patient responses. Patient Education: Educates patients and families on labor progress, pain management options, newborn care, postpartum self-care, and available resources. Collaboration: Collaborates effectively with physicians, midwives, lactation consultants, and other healthcare professionals to provide seamless and holistic care. Emergency Response: Responds promptly and effectively to emergencies, including fetal distress, postpartum hemorrhage, and newborn resuscitation. Required Skills & Qualifications: Graduate of an accredited Associate Degree, Diploma, or Bachelor's Degree program in Nursing Current and unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in Tennessee BLS, ACLS, and NRP certifications are required. Evaluate new cardiology consultations and follow hospitalized cardiovascular patients. Perform comprehensive cardiovascular assessments, including history and physical examinations. Diagnose and manage acute and chronic cardiovascular conditions. Order and interpret diagnostic studies including ECGs, echocardiograms, stress tests, laboratory studies, and cardiac imaging. Develop and implement evidence-based treatment plans in collaboration with supervising cardiologists. Coordinate discharge planning, medication reconciliation, and transition of care. Outpatient Cardiology Clinic Evaluate and manage new and established cardiology patients. Provide ongoing management of cardiovascular diseases including coronary artery disease, heart failure, arrhythmias, hypertension, hyperlipidemia, and valvular heart disease. Prescribe and adjust medications within scope of practice. Educate patients on disease management, medications, lifestyle modifications, and cardiovascular risk reduction. Coordinate referrals to electrophysiology, interventional cardiology, cardiac rehabilitation, cardiac surgery, and other specialists as needed. Interventional Cardiology Support Participate in pre- and post-procedural care for patients undergoing cardiac catheterization, PCI, peripheral vascular interventions, structural heart procedures, and related interventions. Educate patients regarding procedures, risks, benefits, and recovery expectations. Monitor post-procedural recovery and coordinate appropriate follow-up care.
