About the Role
The primary purpose of the Assistant Director Nursing position is to perform charge responsibilities in the Radiology Department/Pain Management & Critical Care Transport in a consistent manner; is accountable on a 24-hour basis for nursing care in the department. Specifically, is responsible for the management of the area including assessing, planning, directing, and coordinating unit activities in cooperation with other members of the management staff. Ensures that all actions are professional and in accordance with the established guidelines of the institution and regulatory agencies.
Responsibilities
What You’ll Do
Provides direction and supervision to health team members to ensure implementation of an appropriate plan of care for the patient:
- Regularly reviews work in progress to ensure all nursing interventions are expeditiously carried out.
- Adjusts staffing patterns and assignments on a daily basis to maximize utilization of resources.
- Sets priorities as determined by the department’s needs on a continuing basis.
- Optimizes staffing efficiency
Ensures appropriate documentation of nursing care in accordance with regulatory agency requirements.
- Provides staff with ongoing information and guidance to ensure compliance and consistency in documentation, as evidenced by unit reports submitted monthly to the Executive Director and documented in staff meeting minutes.
- Serves as a Liaison to Patient Care Services including Education, Quality, and Infection Control for all of the areas the ADN is responsible for.
Provides leadership and influences others in order to achieve organizational objectives:
- Demonstrates skill at team building and interpersonal relationships on a daily basis, as evidenced through direct observation and staff feedback.
- Engenders and maintains a climate in the department conducive to open and positive communication, as evidenced by observation and staff feedback.
- Resolves conflicts and concerns in a manner appropriate to the situation, as evidenced by observation and staff feedback.
- Demonstrates knowledge of hospital and departmental policy on a daily basis, as evidenced by direct observation and staff feedback.
- Delegates appropriate responsibilities to qualified staff members on a daily basis, as documented in monthly reports and daily assignments.
- Evaluates employee performance on a timely and continuing basis, and counsels staff members on how to improve performance and effectiveness, as evidenced by annual performance appraisals and detailed staff goals and objectives updated annually.
Qualifications
What You’ll Bring
Required:
- Licensed as a Registered Nurse in the State of New Jersey.
- BLS (CPR) required.
Preferred:
- Bachelor’s Degree in Nursing is preferred.
- Master’s Degree in a related field is preferred.
- One (1) year Radiology and/or Pain Management nursing experience preferred/management experience preferred.
- Minimum of three (3) years clinical care delivery experience required.
- CCRN preferred.
- ACLS/PALS certification preferred.

Compensation
In compliance with New Jersey’s Pay Transparency Act, the salary range for this position is NS/08S - $137,584 - $171,981 - $206,374 per year. University Hospital considers multiple factors when determining compensation, including (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s relevant work experience, education and training, key skills, internal equity, market data, and organizational needs. The expected salary range for this position is in accordance with the New Jersey Pay Transparency Law; final compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
