Summary

Entry-level vocational nurse with basic knowledge of nursing practices in a cardiology setting. Assists cardiologists and registered nurses with patient care, including rooming patients, obtaining vitals, preparing patients for examinations and procedures, scheduling tests and appointments, and documenting and communicating patient information with referring providers and care teams.

This position is located at our McNair Campus.

Job Duties

  • Performs duties in a manner that promotes high-quality, safe, and patient-centered care, along with excellent customer service within the Cardiology department.
  • Practices within the scope defined by the Texas Nurse Practice Act.
  • Assists cardiologists, advanced practice providers (APPs), and registered nurses with patient examinations, treatments, cardiac diagnostic testing, and in-office procedures.
  • Obtains and records vital signs, administers medications as ordered, performs ordered diagnostic tests, and monitors patient condition.
  • Coordinates scheduling of patient appointments, cardiac procedures, diagnostic testing, and follow-up visits.
  • Collects and communicates relevant clinical information to support RNs, APPs, and physicians with patient telephone encounters, referrals, prior authorizations, and patient education.
  • Accurately documents all patient care activities in the electronic medical record system.
  • Maintains a clean, organized, and safe clinical environment, including stocking and ordering exam and treatment room supplies.
  • Builds and maintains professional, collaborative relationships with physicians, staff, patients, and interdisciplinary care teams through effective communication and teamwork.
  • Participates in workflow improvement initiatives.
  • Performs other related duties as assigned.

Minimum Qualifications

  • High School diploma or G.E.D and graduated from an approved licensed practical nurse/vocational nurse (LPN/LVN).
  • No experience required.
  • Current license as a Licensed Vocational Nurse (LVN) or as a Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) by the State of Texas Board of Nurse Examiners.
  • Basic Life Support certification (BLS) from the American Heart Association.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Cardiology experience.
