Position Summary:
The School Nurse (R.N.) provides professional nursing services to support the health and wellness of students and staff. This position plays a critical role in the educational environment by addressing the physical, emotional, and social health needs of students, promoting a safe and healthy school climate, and coordinating care with families and community health providers. The School Nurse also supports compliance with health mandates and ensures that school health policies are upheld.

Essential Duties & Responsibilities:
• Assess and evaluate students' health and its impact on educational progress
• Counsel students, parents, and school personnel regarding health concerns
• Identify students with health needs that interfere with learning
• Provide programs for disease prevention and control
• Coordinate school health services with other health and education professionals
• Collaborate with community health programs and state agencies
• Monitor school facilities for health and safety recommendations
• Respond to health and social issues such as child abuse, substance use, nutrition, and teen pregnancy
• Organize and conduct mandated health screenings (vision, hearing, scoliosis)
• Act as a health resource for students, families, and school staff
• Administer medications in accordance with school policy
• Conduct home visits as needed to assess student health and home environment
• Complete home evaluations and participate in special education team meetings
• Maintain accurate and up-to-date student health records
• Document first aid, illness care, and accident reports
• Ensure compliance with immunization requirements and manage communicable disease protocols
• Maintain appropriate first aid supplies and equipment
• Perform other nursing duties as assigned

Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:
• Strong clinical nursing assessment and care planning skills
• Ability to communicate effectively with students, families, and staff
• Knowledge of child development, pediatric, and community health issues
• Understanding of state health mandates, laws, and school health policies
• Ability to maintain confidentiality and accurate records
• Skilled in collaboration and coordination with multidisciplinary teams
• Proficiency in English; bilingual preferred
• Ability to use electronic health records and documentation systems
• Familiarity with public health resources and referral systems

Qualifications & Requirements:
• Graduate of a Professional Nursing Program approved by the Massachusetts Board of Registration in Nursing
• Current license as a Registered Professional Nurse in the Commonwealth of Massachusetts
• Bachelor's Degree in Nursing required
• 1-3 years of experience in pediatrics, community health, or a related field
• Eligible for certification in School Nursing by the Massachusetts Department of Education
• Proficient in English; bilingual candidates preferred
