Job Description

We are searching for an Emergency Department Staff Nurse—someone who works well in a fast-paced setting. In this position you’ll provide quality nursing care to patients by assessing, planning, educating, implementing, and evaluating age-appropriate care in a manner that incorporates family-centered principles and cost-effective care. We need someone who can collect and analyze data from the medical record in order to coordinate patient care.

Texas Children's Emergency Center, located in the Texas Medical Center at 6621 Fannin St., provides a complete range of services to the greater Houston community, treating children with both medical and surgical emergencies.

Texas Children’s Emergency Center, the largest pediatric emergency center in South Central Texas, has 53 beds, including shock trauma resuscitation beds, dedicated sexual assault examination room, and specialized isolation room. It is open 24 hours a day, 7 days a week.

Qualifications:

Bachelor's Degree in nursing Or Associates Degree in nursing with acceptance or current enrollment in a BSN program and signed agreement
Or Technical diploma in nursing with acceptance or current enrollment in a BSN program and signed agreement
Or Must be currently enrolled in a nursing bridge program working toward an MSN.
Verified BSN-equivalency or a signed agreement is required.
Current licensure with the Board of Nursing for the State of Texas is required
Current BLS from the American Heart Association is required
(1) year of professional nursing experience
1 year of Pediatric, Emergency, or Critical Care experience highly preferred

Responsibilities:

Performs and documents assessment of the patient/family including bio-physical, psychosocial, developmental (age-appropriate), cultural, spiritual, and environmental needs in an organized and systematic manner
Collects and analyzes data from the medical record in order to coordinate patient care
Identifies patient's needs pertaining to patient teaching, discharge planning, growth and development, nutritional screening, functional status, and pain management
Re-prioritizes and updates plan of care based on new information and changes in the patient's condition; communicates this information to other health care team members and documents in the medical record
Discusses the patient's plan of care with family and/or significant individuals and documents in the medical record as appropriate
Evaluates and documents patient's response to the care provided and recognizes the patient's progress toward meeting the desired outcomes and discusses with the patient/family
Formulates, implements, and documents individualized teaching plan based on patient/family assessment
Serves as a patient/family advocate while caring for patients and collaborating with other health care team members
Administers and documents medications and treatments in a timely manner
Demonstrates willingness and ability to acquire new knowledge and utilize new skills needed to improve individual, team, and organizational performances

Job Summary and Qualifications As a Registered Nurse, you will be responsible for delivering high-quality, patient-centered care in line with the requirements of the department and the standards of practice for the relevant state and specialty. Collaborating with medical providers and the care team, you will provide personalized, comprehensive, and compassionate care, following established nursing models such as "Assess, Perform, Teach, and Manage." You will also act as an advocate for patients, families, and caregivers, embodying the organizations vision, mission, and values to ensure an outstanding patient experience and positive clinical outcomes. What you will do in this role: Applies the nursing process to a group of patients. Evaluates outcomes of patient care, consults with other disciplines as required and adjusts the plan of care as necessary to ensure optimal service. Ensure appropriate delivery of patient care for a group of patients according to policy and procedure; assigns and/or delegates patient care assignments to licensed and non-licensed nursing staff, based on acuity, needs of the patient, staff availability and qualifications. Documents all aspects of patient care efficiently and effectively, utilizing Meditech EMR. Current Registered Nurse License in the State of Texas or Multi-State Compact License (Employees with RN Compact License are required to obtain Texas RN License within 90 days of hire date) Current BLS, ACLS, and PALS issued from American Heart Association required TNCC within 6 months of hire date 1 year of clinical ER experience as a licensed RN required.
