Description: The Surgical Technician is responsible for organizing the supplies and equipment in the operating room. Sets up the operating surgeon’s sterile table trying to anticipate what might be needed during the procedure. Helps the surgeon and any assistants do their surgical gowns and gloves. Counts surgical instruments before and after the surgery. Hands the desired instruments to the surgeon during the operation. Prepares the sterile dressings. Cleans the surgical instruments after the operation. Assists with cleaning the operating room after an operation. May assist with the transfer of the patient to the recovery room. Responsible for ensuring proper care and use of surgical instruments. Qualifications: Minimum of two years’ experience in an OR setting, acute care, or have outpatient experience. Completion of Surgical Technician course BLS certification required. Cooperative work attitude toward co-employees, management, patients, visitors, and physicians. Bilingual (English/Spanish) preferred.

Position Summary Provides specialized surgical technology support for adult cardiovascular and open-heart patients in an acute care hospital setting. Functions as a member of the cardiovascular operating room (CVOR) team during open-heart, coronary artery bypass graft (CABG), valve, thoracic, and other cardiovascular procedures. Prepares the operating room, establishes and maintains the sterile field, anticipates the needs of the surgeon, and ensures required instruments, supplies, and equipment are available and functioning. Performs or assists with vein harvesting, including endoscopic vein harvesting (EVH), consistent with demonstrated competency, hospital policy, and applicable scope of practice. Communicates and collaborates with surgeons, registered nurses, anesthesia providers, perfusionists, and other Open Heart team members. Participates in emergency cases, on-call coverage, room turnover, equipment maintenance, inventory management, performance improvement activities, and orientation/precepting of surgical technologists joining the CVOR team.
