Assists in phlebotomy: identifies patient, checks requisition form for requested tests, and prepares equipment, patient and puncture site. Assists in IV set-up: verifying solution to be administered, evaluating infusion site, checking IV function and patient comfort, and discontinuing IV at appropriate time, as ordered by MD and under supervision of an RN. Maintains adequate inventory of narcotics after each tour of duty, examination room supplies and prepares exam rooms at the beginning and end of day and between each patient contact. Performs variety of office responsibilities: answers phones and takes messages and performs triage within scope of licensed practical nursing practice in an accurate and timely manner. Description: In collaboration with supervising physicians, the PA directly manages the care of complex acutely ill patients with or without chronic diseases via face-to-face, telehealth, or other communication devices. An expert in patient care who can provide quality care, perform patient assessments, physical examinations, and medical history. The PA can order and interpret a variety of laboratory and diagnostic tests. The PA can diagnose, develop appropriate treatment plans, prescribe medical regimen, and educate patients/family regarding diagnosis and plan of care. The Delineation of Privileges helps structure the care and management that the PA provides for patients. The PA works collaboratively with physicians, staff, and administration to ensure quality of care across the health system. The PA can be a team leader during code rescue/blue. When available, the PA may participate in research initiatives, data collection, quality improvement, discharge planning, and coordination of patient care within the area of practice.
