This is a part-time position with Wayne Urology working 32 hours weekly.
Qualifications:
- Completion of a recognized LPN or Medical Assistant program at an accredited college or university preferred.
- 1+ years of experience in direct patient care, urology or specialty clinic experience preferred.
- Proficient in medical terminology.
- Prior phlebotomy experience preferred.
- Knowledge of urologic conditions, procedures, and treatments preferred.
- Experience with electronic medical records (EMR) preferred.
Responsibilities:
- Reports for scheduled shifts on time and in a professional manner with regard to behavior, telephone courtesy, dress, identification, and communication with patients, colleagues, and outside agencies.
- Works closely with providers and leadership to continually improve the patient experience through daily patient care, clerical support, ongoing projects, and assumes additional duties as needed in a self-directed manner.
- Under the direction of the provider, contributes to the completion of the patient visit, including obtaining and documenting vital signs, chief complaint, medical history updates, medication reconciliation, and patient/family needs. Identifies significant changes in patient condition and reports findings to the provider.
- Assists providers with urologic office procedures including, but not limited to, cystoscopy preparation, catheter insertion and removal, bladder instillations, voiding trials, uroflowmetry testing, post-void residual bladder scans, and other specialty procedures within scope of practice.
- Performs specialized testing and specimen collection including phlebotomy, point-of-care testing, urine specimen collection and processing, urinalysis, urine cultures, and preparation of specimens for laboratory analysis.
- Provides patient education regarding urologic diagnoses, medications, catheter care, procedural preparation, post-procedure instructions, and treatment plans as directed by the provider.
- Provides for a safe patient experience through adherence to clinical protocols, regulatory requirements, manufacturer standards, infection prevention guidelines, and reports any potential equipment malfunctions or safety concerns.
- May support a variety of clerical office functions including answering phones, scheduling appointments, obtaining medical records, scanning documents, prior authorizations, and maintaining accurate patient documentation.
- Within the scope of Licensed Practical Nurse or Medical Assistant, demonstrates clinical knowledge and excellent customer service while answering and triaging patient telephone calls. Documents accurately in the EMR and obtains provider instructions when appropriate.
- Coordinates patient care activities including referrals, imaging studies, laboratory testing, procedure scheduling, surgery scheduling support, medication authorizations, and follow-up appointments.
- Supports internal and external customers to maintain a superior patient experience through teamwork. Communicates professionally with patients, providers, co-workers, and outside healthcare organizations at all times. Actively participates in staff meetings and quality improvement initiatives.
- Maintains exam rooms, procedure rooms, and clinical supplies. Assists with inventory management, ordering supplies, monitoring expiration dates, and ensuring equipment is properly maintained.
- Flexibility to stay as needed to provide quality patient care and complete daily responsibilities.
- Other duties include but are not limited to coordinating ancillary services, tracking referrals and test results, maintaining patient confidentiality, disposing of contaminated supplies according to policy, and supporting clinic operations as assigned.
