Job Summary

Provides overall supervision of the organization in collaboration with and in the absence of the administrative/executive team. Makes administrative decisions, collaborates with the Nursing Directors and other departments, ensures patient and staff safety, and oversees the functioning of the organization. Assists with/facilitates clinical functions. Supervises and directs the activities of various levels of assigned personnel using both professional and supervisory discretion and independent judgment.

Job Requirements

Education and Work Experience:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in nursing or equivalent combination of education/related experience: Required
  • Master's Degree: Preferred
  • Five years' technical experience: Preferred
  • One year's experience working in a critical care setting: Preferred

Licenses/Certifications

Essential Functions

  • Supervises nursing personnel and operations by making rounds on a regular basis. Assesses routine and non-routine conditions of patients through identification of symptoms and behavioral changes, reviewing histories of physiological/psychological, cultural and spiritual information, reviewing medical data such as medical history, physical exams, plan of care, etc. Works with staff in unusual cases to develop a prioritized interdisciplinary plan of care. May assist staff to revise the plan of care to meet changing needs of patients, making appropriate referrals, i.e. dietary, spiritual care, etc. Responds to all acute unit codes. Attends to medical emergencies for inpatients. Works with other area supervisors when needed to provide advice or assistance.
  • Facilitates hospital throughput including providing resources, managing bed placement, and patient transfers/discharges. Coordinates "bed huddles" as needed. Participates in discharge planning with patients, physicians, social workers, patient education, utilization review and other personnel as appropriate.
  • Supervises professional and ancillary personnel. Assists with orientation and training of registry/traveler staff, new and existing employees, assisting them in learning department routines, policies and procedures, etc. Supervises the quality and effectiveness of patient care delivered throughout the Hospital, using such methods as: direct observation, rounds, reviewing reports, checking documentation in the medical record, and exerting influence and giving direction to employees as needed. Ensures compliance of team with applicable laws, rules and regulations.
  • Maintains and adjusts unit-based staffing in order to meet patient needs, while observing regulatory mandates, budget guidelines and needs throughout the hospital.
  • Evaluates employee, patient, family, and physician complaints. Responds courteously and promptly and resolves problems within the scope of delegated authority, consulting with administration as required. In the review of patient conditions, works with patients, family, physician, and healthcare team members in order to maintain standards of acceptable quality care.

PRIMARY FUNCTION The Admissions Registered Nurse is an Interdisciplinary Team member whose primary responsibility is to present ANCHOR HEALTH services and philosophy to patients and families in a manner that results in the admission of appropriate patients. JOB RESPONSIBILITIES FOR THE ADMISSIONS REGISTERED NURSE 1. Admissions Registered Nurse participates in the information gathering, analysis, education, and form completion aspects of the admissions process 2. Admissions Registered Nurse evaluates patients for hospice appropriateness, e.g. medical records review as requested. 3. Admissions Registered Nurse Obtains agreement for admission of referred patients and families who meet admission criteria. 4. Admissions Registered Nurse analyzes data collected by the admission staff or ANCHOR HEALTH clinicians to facilitate/obtain admission orders 5. Admissions Registered Nurse builds effective referral source relationships to support the high quality and responsiveness expectations associated with ANCHOR HEALTH. 6. Admissions Registered Nurse maintains clinical and professional competence. 7. Admissions Registered Nurse takes the initiative in developing effective relationships internally with the appropriate admissions and patient care resource persons. 8. Admissions Registered Nurse utilizes interpersonal skills to help appropriately educate and address any questions the patient and/or patients’ family has concerning hospice and palliative care. 9. Admissions Registered Nurse has the ability to communicate effectively with patients and families, physicians, referral sources and colleagues. 3. Admissions Registered Nurse has the knowledge of clinical manifestations of diseases and ability to develop ANCHOR HEALTH specific clinical knowledge. 4. Admissions Registered Nurse has the ability to use the ANCHOR HEALTH information system and mobile technology platforms. 5. Admissions Registered Nurse has reliable means of transportation. DIRECTION RECEIVED The Admissions Registered Nurse reports to the Admissions Manager designated in the location. In the event the location does not have an Admissions Manager, the Admissions Registered Nurse will receive direction from the Patient Care Administrator or program designee QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE ADMISSIONS REGISTERED NURSE 1. Graduate of a National League of Nursing accredited school of nursing. 2. Current licensure in State of CA and CPR certification. 3. Registered nurses shall have a minimum of one (1) year of experience as a professional nurse within the last three (3) years; OR have a baccalaureate degree in nursing from a program accredited by the National League of Nursing and a current RN license. Minimum of two (2) years’ experience, at least one of which is in the area of public health, home care, or hospice nursing is preferred. 4. Excellent observation, verbal and written communication skills, problem solving skills, basic math skills; nursing skills per competency checklist. Admissions Registered Nurse is expected to have strong presentation skills. 5. Prolonged or considerable walking or standing. Able to lift, position and/or transfer patients. Able to lift supplies and equipment. Considerable reaching, stooping bending, kneeling and/or crouching. 6. Must be a licensed driver with an automobile that is insured in accordance with state/or organization requirements and is in good working order.
