JOB TITLE: RN Supervisor

REPORTS TO: Director of Nursing Services

TITLE OF IMMEDIATE SUBORDINATES: Charge Nurse RN/LPN/C.N.A

JOB SUMMARY:

The primary purpose of your job position is to supervisor the day-to-day nursing activities of the facility during your tour of duty -overseeing of the facility's operations and management including providing optimal care, communicating the facility's policies and ensuring the general order, safety and cleanliness of the facility. Follows all health, sanitary and infection control policies and maintains established standards of practice set forth by the facility's administration and Nursing policies and procedures. Such supervision must be in according with current federal, state and local guidelines, and regulations that govern our facility and as may be required by the Director of Nursing Services, to ensure that the highest degree of quality care is maintained at all times.

Education: Must possess, as a minimum, an associates Nursing Degree from accredited college or university.

QUALIFICATIONS

q Ability to read, write and comprehend English; ability to follow oral and written instructions.

q Interest in the needs of the aged and the chronically ill with the ability to work with both.

q Ability to work hours as scheduled based on the requirements of the position/assignments.

q Registered Nurse licensed in the State of employment. Minimum of one year of education or experience in geriatric nursing or rehabilitation preferred.

q Knowledge of nursing theory and practice including the administration of medications.

q CPR certified.

WORKING CONDITIONS: Works in an appropriately lighted and ventilated environment. This position may result in your being exposed to blood/body fluids.

PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:

q Must be able to move intermittently throughout the day, proper body mechanics required—bending, stooping, turning, stretching, reaching above the shoulders and occasional lifting are involved.

q Must be able to cope with the mental, emotional and physical stress of the position.

q Must be able to observe, listen and communicate effectively.

q Must function independently, have flexibility, personal integrity, and the ability to work effectively with residents, personnel, support agencies, and outside agencies.

q Must be able to relate to and work with the ill, disabled, elderly, emotionally upset, and at times hostile people within the facility.

q Must be able to transfer and pivot residents.

q Must be able to push, pull, move, and/or lift a minimum of 25 pounds to a minimum height of 5 feet and be able to push, pull, move and/or carry such weight a minimum of 50 feet.

PRIMARY FUNCTIONS:

q Makes decisions relevant to the operation and management of the facility during the assigned shift.

q Verifies that the resident's physician and family is notified when there is a significant clinical development in the resident's condition or if the resident requires immediate medical care.

q Makes decisions concerning staffing in the facility such as replacing call outs, authorizing overtime and reassigning personnel when appropriate.

OTHER DUTIES:

q Assumes independent responsibility for yearly written evaluations of charge nurses and documents accurately their strengths, weaknesses and the steps taken to improve their performance. Such evaluations become part of the charge nurses' permanent records and shall be used as the basis for determining continued employment, promotional opportunities and the amount of any wage increases granted.

q Assumes independent responsibilities for documenting disciplinary concerns for charge nurses on designated shifts, including reprimands, oral and written warnings, and recommending the suspension or discharge of an employee.

q Directs proper handling of resident care emergencies.

q Makes house rounds and consults with charge nurse concerning new admissions and acutely/seriously ill residents.

q Ensures availability of supplies and that all equipment is in proper working order.

q Supervises to ensure the proper completion of accident/incident documentation and notification.

q Functions as Charge Nurse RN in the event that there is a call out and the nurse cannot be replaced.

q Assists in on-going Quality Assurance of resident care and documentation.

q Assumes other duties as assigned by ADNS.

q Conducts in-services during assigned shifts according to pre-determined schedules. Records attendance.

q Monitors schedule of physicians' visits and keeps Medical Director advised of any and all discrepancies.

q Projects the facility's image in a positive light to residents, staff and community.

q Maintains a positive attitude and rapport with family members.

q Involved in medication returns

q Works with a minimum of supervision.

q Discusses any problems, needs or concerns which arise with the Administrator.

q Attends in-service educational classes and on-the-job training programs as directed.

q Understands and upholds Residents’ Bill of Rights and holds all resident information confidential

q Understands responsibilities concerning infection control, safety, accident and fire prevention.

q Assumes any duties that are assigned by the ADNS in order to provide optimal achievable quality resident care.

q Discusses any problems, needs or concerns which arise with the staff.

q Resolves work related complaints of charge nurses and CNA's during assigned shift.

q Maintains a professional demure in appearance and mannerisms according to established facility standards.
