General Summary/Responsibilities

The Nursing Assistant Specialist is a paraprofessional member of the health care team who provides physical and mental support for the patient, performs light housekeeping and meal preparation and provides companionship and incidental personal care. This specialist may work under the supervision of a licensed nurse to perform basic nursing tasks as assigned.

Minimum Level of Experience Required: 1 - 3 years of job-related experience

Successful Completion Of One Of The Following

Nurse’s aide training course within the last twelve months.
Direct patient care experience within the last six months.
Currently enrolled in nursing school with the completion of core nursing classes.

Knowledge/Skills

Must be able to read, write, and follow written instructions and document care given.
Must complete agency competencies.
Must display good physical and emotional health and be capable of stooping and bending and lifting up to 50 lbs. Should demonstrate good personal hygiene.
Must be self-directed with the ability to work with little direct supervision and have the maturity necessary for establishing and maintaining a good work relationship with the patient, the patient's family and all other office personnel.
Must have a sincere interest in and sympathetic attitude toward caring for the sick and disabled at home.
Must meet all agency personnel policies.
Must have reliable transportation.

Maintain accurate documentation of restorative services provided and residents’ progress in compliance with facility protocols. Provide encouragement and motivation to residents to achieve their restorative goals. Train residents in proper techniques for mobility and transfers while ensuring safety. Collaborate with nursing, therapy, and other team members to ensure continuity of care and optimal outcomes. Clean and maintain restorative equipment and therapy areas as needed. Participate in team meetings and contribute to care plan updates. Adhere to all facility policies, procedures, and state/federal regulations. Providing feedback to the interdisciplinary team about status changes of residents receiving therapy. Scheduling and prioritizing workload in collaboration with the Rehab Director.
