GENERAL SUMMARY:

The Registered Nurse provides self-directed, effective nursing care to patients of the Wound Care Institute. Directs, initiates, and implements a patient care plan in wound care environment.  Assists physicians during examinations and procedures.  Prepares equipment, applies and changes dressings, and monitors patient outcomes.  Performs exceptional patient care; applying substantial specialized knowledge, judgment, and nursing skill based upon applied and evidence-based practices. Demonstrates professionalism, adheres to facility standards of dress; demonstrates respect and caring for both internal and external customers.     

PRINCIPAL DUTIES AND JOB RESPONSIBILITIES:     

  •        Works collaboratively to provide quality patient care.
  •      Works with front desk personnel to coordinate appointments with ancillary departments when therapy or procedures are ordered ensuring that    patient’s needs are met.
  •        Assesses the patient’s condition and nursing needs; sets goals; establishes appropriate nursing actions to meet those goals along with the physical, psychological, social and rehabilitative needs of the patient including discharge planning.
  •         Establishes and maintains communications with patients and other significant individuals; utilizing teaching opportunities.
  •         Provides case management functions for patients as directed.
  •         Provides concurrent documentation of patient’s care in the electronic medical record.
  •         Participates with committees as requested, contributes on a regular basis in the identification of opportunities for process improvement.
  •         Maintains economical utilization of supplies and ensures that equipment is maintain in a clean and safe manner.
  •      Participates in new staff orientation as appropriate; may serve as preceptor.  Providing guidance and development of skills for Wound Care Technicians.
  •         Maintains the standards of nursing care and implements the policies and procedures of Innovative Healing Systems and their partner hospital.
  •         Assists with or institutes emergency measures for sudden adverse developments in patients such as cardiac arrest or other emergencies.
  •         Participates in team conferences in development of individualized nursing care plans as needed.
  •         Attends and participates in staff meetings and required in-services.  Provides in-services as appropriate.
  •         Performs additional duties as assigned.

KNOWLEDGE AND SKILLS:

  •         Possesses strong verbal communication skills; demonstrating ability to communicate with adult and geriatric age groups.
  •         Ability to work independently and collaboratively in team environment.
  •         Ability to communicate and work closely with physicians
  •         Ability to adapt to changing patient flow schedules.
  •         Knowledge of EMR system(s) and documentation requirements.
  •         Knowledge of patient confidentiality standards and requirements.
  •         Knowledge of outpatient provider services.
  •         Strong team building skills.

REQUIRED COMPETENCIES:

  •         Provides patient care in a safe, appropriate and timely manner.
  •         Provides efficient and appropriate follow-up with patient charting, orders and case management as appropriate.
  •         Adheres to the established nursing policies, practices and procedures in providing patient care.
  •         Demonstrates team work with co-workers and flexibility with changes.
  •         Demonstrates adherence to IHS policies and procedures.
  •         Remains current with all appropriate licensures and certifications.
  •         Maintains a safe patient environment

License/Certifications: Current Florida RN license and BLS.  ACLS and Certification in Wound Care preferred.
