Advanced Practice Provider (NP/PA) – Thoracic Surgery
Position Overview
My team and I are seeking a dedicated and highly motivated Advanced Practice Provider (Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant) to join our growing, high-volume Thoracic Surgery team. This role offers a dynamic split between operating room first-assisting, inpatient rounding, and outpatient clinic management. You will work collaboratively with board-certified thoracic surgeons to provide seamless, high-quality care to patients with complex thoracic and thoracic-oncology conditions (including lung, esophageal, and mediastinal diseases).
Experience Requirements
Preferred: Two (2) or more years of dedicated experience as an APP in Thoracic Surgery or Surgical Oncology but not required. Robotic experience is highly recommended to apply. Willing to train.
Key Responsibilities
Clinical & Inpatient Management
* Conduct daily inpatient rounding, managing pre- and post-operative thoracic surgery patients across step-down units and the ICU.
* Perform clinical assessments, manage chest tubes, place or remove sutures, and handle specialized wound care.
* Order and interpret diagnostic tests (e.g., chest X-rays, CT scans, labs) and coordinate multi-specialty care pathways.
* Manage independent and shared outpatient clinic lines for new patient consultations, pre-op evaluations, and long-term surveillance.
Intraoperative First-Assisting
* Act as the surgical first assistant in open, thoracoscopic (VATS), and robotic-assisted thoracic procedures.
* Maintain a high level of surgical technical competence, sterility, and efficiency within the OR environment. [3, 9]
Patient Advocacy & Coordination
* Educate patients and their families regarding surgical expectations, diagnoses, and post-discharge recovery plans.
* Facilitate safe and efficient care transitions from hospital discharge to outpatient follow-up appointments.

Qualifications & Requirements
For Nurse Practitioners (NP):
* Graduate of an accredited nursing program with a Master’s Degree or higher in Nursing.
* National certification as an FNP or AGACNP or relevant population focus.
* Current Registered Nurse (RN) and Advanced Practice Registered Nurse (APRN) licensure in the state of Washington or eligible for transfer.
For Physician Assistants (PA):
* Graduate of an ARC-PA accredited Physician Assistant program with a Bachelor’s or Master’s degree.
* Current certification by the National Commission on Certification of Physician Assistants (NCCPA).
* Active Physician Assistant license in the state of Washington
Required Certifications (All Candidates):
* American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS).
* Active DEA registration (or eligibility to obtain prior to start date).
