With offices throughout San Diego County, our doctors specialize in family medicine, internal medicine, pediatrics, and obstetrics and gynecology. Some locations also provide rheumatology and orthopedics care. When further specialty care is needed, you have access to an extensive network of medical experts throughout the region. Scripps also provides health education resources, including weight management programs, nutrition and fitness classes, and programs for chronic conditions, such as diabetes.

This is a benefited, full-time position that generally works Monday through Friday from 8:30 a.m. to 5:00 p.m., with a 30-minute lunch. The schedule also includes 1 Saturday every 4 to 6 months to cover the Pediatric Clinic. This position primarily supports the Pediatric Department in Oceanside at the Jefferson Clinic, while maintaining flexibility to provide coverage within Internal Medicine as operational needs require.

What You'll Do

  • The ideal candidate will be dependable, self-motivated, and a team player looking to join a group that is committed to delivering exceptional patient care.
  • In this role you will assist the department clinically as a Medical Assistant and support the team with front office responsibilities such as answering phones, scheduling, and call backs when needed. Clinically, you will support our providers by checking patient vitals, rooming patients, stocking patient rooms, assisting with procedures and providing patient education as needed.
  • The MA maintains a clean, organized, and safe environment, and organizes and performs patient care services that support the physician’s practice. This includes the following:
    • Checking patients in and out with administrative duties as needed
    • assisting in preparing patients for examination/procedures
    • assisting physicians with procedures
    • relaying instructions from the physician to the patient or authorized person
    • collecting patient data in person and by phone and documenting patient concerns, messages and care provided in the electronic medical record for the physician's review
    • administering medications specifically directed by the physician
    • performing vital sign documentation
    • scheduling of appointments and procedures
    • complete and accurate message taking
    • routing messages to the appropriate area for direction
    • order and referral entry
    • acquisition of pre-certifications and setting up of cases in EPIC
    • basic registration and updating of demographics
    • floating within Internal Medicine as operational needs require
Requirements

  • Completion of a formal Medical Assistant Program, or Medical Assistance Certification, or a minimum of two years of experience as a military corpsman
  • BLS certification for the Healthcare Provider by the American Heart Association (AHA)

Preferred Education/Experience/Specialized Skills/Certification

  • One year of experience as an MA in an outpatient setting
  • Primary Care experience
  • Pediatrics experience
