Staff Nurse, EMS Critical Care Transport

About the Role

The primary purpose of the Staff Nurse (Critical Care Transport) position is to provide and direct the critical care treatment and transport of patients in the hospital setting to the most appropriate facility. Provides pre-hospital Basic and Advanced Life Support (BLS, ALS) and hospital patient care. As a member of the patient care team, under the direction of a licensed Medical Control Physician (MCP) and under the supervision of the Chief Flight Nurse and EMS Coordinator, the Staff Nurse will treat patients of all ages and from all populations who experience serious illness or injury, using age and population appropriate equipment and techniques to safely assess, treat, lift, move and transport patients to an appropriate medical facility, while completing all required documentation and other assigned duties supporting efficient EMS operations and representing University Hospital and EMS in a positive and professional manner.

 

Responsibilities

What You’ll Do  

 
  • Deliver critical care treatment and coordinate patient transport to the most appropriate facility
  • Provide both pre-hospital and in-hospital care, including Basic Life Support (BLS) and Advanced Life Support (ALS)
  • Work as part of the patient care team under the direction of a Medical Control Physician (MCP)
  • Operate under the supervision of the Chief Flight Nurse and EMS Coordinator
  • Assess, treat, and manage patients of all ages and populations experiencing serious illness or injury
  • Use age-appropriate equipment and techniques for safe patient care
  • Safely lift, move, and transport patients in various care settings
  • Ensure accurate and complete documentation of all patient care and transport activities
  • Support efficient EMS operations and fulfill all assigned responsibilities
  • Maintain a professional and positive representation of University Hospital and EMS services

 

 

Qualifications

What You’ll Bring

  • Graduate of an accredited school of nursing
  • Licensed as a Registered Nurse (RN) in the State of New Jersey
  • Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) preferred

Experience Requirements:

  • Minimum of 1 year of critical care nursing experience in an ICU or Emergency Department
  • Previous Ground Transport experience as a Specialty Care Transport Unit (SCTU) Transport Nurse preferred
  • Preferred: At least 2 years of EMS driving experience with a good driving record

Additional Requirements:

  • Ability to pass a medical evaluation and respirator fit test
  • Must be able to wear an N95 particulate filter respirator in accordance with PEOSHA standards
  • Bilingual English/Spanish skills preferred

Licensure & Certifications (must be current and in good standing):

  • NJ Registered Nurse (RN) license
  • Certified Emergency Nurse (CEN) or Critical Care Registered Nurse (CCRN) preferred
  • Valid driver’s license with NJ driving privileges (must meet DOT/MVC regulations for assigned vehicle type)
  • American Heart Association (AHA) BLS for Healthcare Providers
  • AHA Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) Provider
  • AHA Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) Provider OR specialty certifications/training per NJAC 8:41-1.1

Additional Certifications/Training:

  • Incident Command System (ICS) Level 100 preferred
  • National Incident Management System (NIMS) Awareness
  • NJ Mobile Intensive Care Nurse (MICN) certification required within 1 year of employment and must be maintained thereafter

Compensation

 

The expected hourly rate is $57.50, in accordance with the New Jersey Pay Transparency Law.
