Job Description Position Summary: Provides high quality nursing care for assigned patients in a scientific and humanistic focus. The Newly Licensed Registered Nurse (NLRN) utilizes a holistic systems approach to protect and promote client wellness and safety in the physiological, psychological, social cultural, developmental and spiritual domains. Nursing interventions are interdisciplinary, age specific and are directed toward optimal wellness. The NLRN is a nurse who is in their first year of nursing practice. This role ends on the one‐year anniversary of their hire date. At this time, the NLRN transitions to the role of Staff Registered Nurse. The NLRN may occupy a Staff Registered Nurse position after the matching process, but is still considered an NLRN for the first year of practice. NLRNs are not allowed to cover the unit for lunches or breaks or be a shift/charge nurse until they have completed the orientation period. Education, License & Cert: The NLRN must be a graduate of a Diploma, Associate Degree or Bachelor of Science in Nursing (BSN) program and have passed the state board examination by the State Board of Nursing in their state of practice before beginning employment. NLRNs who are graduates of a Diploma or Associate Degree program or possess a non‐Nursing Bachelor’s Degree must demonstrate enrollment in a BSN program within 12 months of hire and earn a BSN within four (4) years from their date of hire.
