Rochester Psychiatric Center is recruiting an Assistant Director Nursing 1 Psychiatric to function as the Assistant Director of the nursing department. Candidates from outside or within State Service can apply.

As an Assistant Director Nursing 1 Psychiatric, you will assist in the management, oversight, and evaluation of nursing and direct care services including:

  • Developing and implementing nursing policies and procedures
  • Overseeing, evaluating, and participating in recruitment, training, and continuing education programs for nursing and direct care staff
  • Supervising Registered Nurse Supervisor 1 Psychiatric and other nursing and direct care staff
  • Ensuring compliance with established standards of nursing care in accordance with State, federal, and accreditation agency requirements

Minimum Qualifications

Candidates from outside and within State Service may be considered for hire under the Hiring for Emergency Limited Placement - Statewide (NY HELPS) program as an Assistant Director Nursing 1 Psychiatric if they have:

  • License and current registration as a registered professional nurse in New York State; and
  • 3 years of post-licensure clinical nursing experience working with individual diagnosed with mental illness, addiction, substance use disorder, or developmental disabilities, or individuals in a medical-surgical or long-term care setting. 1 year of the experience must have been at a supervisory level.

Substitution: A master’s degree in nursing may substitute for one year of post-licensure clinical nursing experience; and a doctorate in nursing may substitute for two years of post-licensure clinical nursing experience.

Candidates from within State Service can be considered for a competitive class appointment if they are reachable on the current Mental Hygiene Nursing Program Coordinator eligible list.

OR

Candidates from within State service may be considered for transfer to a competitive class position if they have one year of permanent competitive or 55-b/55-c service in a title eligible for transfer under Section 70.1 of the Civil Service Law.

In accordance with Section 52.7 of the Civil Service Law, this notice advises all employees of the Office of Mental Health of our intention to conduct a non-competitive promotion examination for the position of Assistant Director Nursing 1 Psychiatric at Buffalo Psychiatric Center. Permanent appointment may be made by non-competitive promotion of an applicant who meets the position’s minimum qualifications if all requirements of non-competitive promotion are met.

The promotion field for the Assistant Director Nursing 1 Psychiatric position consists of candidates who have 1 year of permanent service as a Registered Nurse Supervisor 1 Psychiatric.

Posted hiring rate includes the sum of the statutory hiring rate for M/C M-1 ($93,659), an Increase Hiring Rate ($16,008), and Geographic Pay Differential ($20,000). The posted job rate is the sum of the statutory job rate ($118,388), Geographic Pay Differential ($20,000).
