A Brief Overview

Functions as a member of the Practice Management team working in different physicians offices providing both Front and Back Office Clerical and Clinical services.

What You Will Do

  • Performs all medical procedures necessary (ie. Venipunctures, vital signs and EKGs) on all patients as required. Explains testing procedure to patient prior to test.
  • Receives specimens from patients.
  • Manually documents information required for patients’ specimens and tests completed, in various ancillary department medical records.
  • Visually reviews test results for completion and abnormalities.
  • Will schedule and register patients in the doctor’s office, answer telephones, meet and greet patients and assist physicians in all other matters pertaining to the Physician’s office.
  • Maintains strict patient confidentiality.
  • Performs related duties as assigned.

Education Qualifications

  • High School Graduate or equivalent required and
  • Graduate of an accredited Medical Assistant Program. required

Experience Qualifications

  • 1-3 years Minimum of two or three years’ hospital or physician’s office experience required

Knowledge, Skills, And Abilities

  • Knowledge of venipuncture and EKG. (High proficiency)
  • Requires a thorough knowledge of medical terminology. (High proficiency)
  • Ability to work independently. (Medium proficiency)
  • Requires good communication skills and telephone techniques. (High proficiency)
  • Must have a thorough knowledge of ancillary testing procedures. (High proficiency)

Licenses and Certifications

  • Certified Medical Assistant (CMA)-AAMA CMA certification must be obtained within 90 Days required

Qualifications EDUCATION A minimum of a high school diploma or GED Have graduated from an approved, accredited, postsecondary medical assisting program, Nursing Assistant Program, or Patient Care Associate Training EXPERIENCE Preferred 12-18 months experience prior work as a Medical Assistant, Nursing Assistant, or Patient Care Associate, preferably in an outpatient clinical setting or relevant patient care environment. Should have clinical competency. LICENSURE Preferred current medical assisting credential (certifications or registration) acceptable to, and recognized by, the Connecticut Department of Public Health. SPECIAL SKILLS Demonstrated ability to communicate effectively with patient, families, peers, and interdisciplinary team. Demonstrate flexibility in adjusting priorities and adjust work plans based on the needs of the patient, the service/unit, and the patient care team. Demonstrates professional, appropriate, effective and tactful written, verbal and nonverbal communication with patients, families, medical staff, colleagues, and all internal and external employees. PHYSICAL DEMAND Able to lift a minimum of 40 pounds. Ability to perform tasks of physical endurance and dexterity as required by placement. Consistent use of proper body mechanics.
