Relationships and Caring • Establishes a caring, therapeutic relationship with patients and families through effective communication, acknowledgement of patient/family perceptions of health and illness and mutual goal setting for optimal outcomes. • Collaborates consistently and effectively with other disciplines and services to meet the needs of patients/families. Critical Thinking • Performs scrub responsibilities according to standard of care, physicians preference and policy and procedure. • Anticipates the needs of the surgeon and ensures proper instrument during the operative procedure; applies the principles of sterile technique. Technical Expertise • Correctly counts during operative procedures according to policy and procedures. • Accurately cleans and prepares instruments for terminal sterilization according to hospital policy. • Accurately operates decontamination and sterilization equipment according to OR policy and procedures. • Accurately documents biological and sterilization information according to OR policy and procedures. Leadership • Assists in providing meaningful orientation and ongoing experience to new staff, students and other team members. • Demonstrates beginning leadership skills related to patient care. • Demonstrates accountability for own professional practice, including progress toward achievement of annual goals. PATIENT POPULATION THIS POSITION SERVICES: Infant, child, young adult, adult and geriatric patients.
