Clinical Nurse Educator - Department Based - CVICU

Position Highlights: Position: This full-time position is a dual role of 0.5 FTE in the Clinical Nurse Educator - Department based role supporting ongoing staff development and 0.5 FTE in the RN role supporting unit staffing in the CVICU. (Salary Range for RN role is $36.00-$55.80). Location: Glenbrook Full Time (40 hours/week) Educator Hours: Monday – Friday; Days & Evenings coverage required based on department needs. Day shift can start as early as 5 am. Evening shift starts at 3 pm. 40 hours per pay period structured as two 8-hour shifts one week and three 8-hour shift the alternate week. RN Hours: Sunday-Saturday; hours based on unit needs; rotating holidays A Brief Overview: A Clinical Nurse Educator – Department Based is a nurse with prior clinical experience who may or may not have previous educational experience, and whose primary focus is staff development and nursing education. Reporting to the Director of Nursing Professional Development and Practice and working in collaboration with the unit manager. The Clinical Nurse Educator – Department Based elevates professional nursing practice by developing, coaching, and mentoring nursing staff. They also maintain clinical proficiency by providing direct patient care, precepting, and delivering bedside “just-in-time” education to nursing staff. What you will do: This role includes providing direct patient care. Acts as a clinical resource to staff; maintains visibility in the clinical environment for just in time learning facilitation and/or assisting in providing direct patient care Flexibility in scheduling to accommodate providing educational activities at various times of the day and various days of the week. Serve as a clinical mentor and role model for new and existing staff. Collaborates with Clinical Nurse Manager to assess education and performance needs of staff. Serve as a resource to Clinical Managers/Clinical Coordinators in defining education and performance needs of staff. Supports the role transition, role integration, skill acquisition and mastery as nursing staff advance from novice to expert. Assists in the development and implementation of unit/service line/area based competency requirements for nurses and patient care technicians Facilitates the onboarding of employees to ensure integration to the role on both unit and system-wide levels, focusing on retention and growth for licensed and unlicensed team members. Manage education and training processes/activities to foster learning using strategies that engage learners in critical inquiry, critical thinking, problem solving, and foster the development of competence in learners. Precepts registered nurses new to the department. Mentors and evaluates preceptors to enhance learning experiences for all new hires. Evaluates orientation and onboarding experiences to ensure newly hired team members are prepared to practice safely and independently. Organizes and acts as a resource for on unit in-services for new products, equipment, policies/procedures/practice. In collaboration with Clinical Nurse Manager, partner with staff to lead unit council development and participation in shared decision-making councils. Partners with Clinical Nurse Manager to drive unit safety, quality outcomes and patient experience. Promote a positive and professional climate and provide resources for learning that facilitate the life-long learning process. Support and promote specialty certification preparation. Demonstrates knowledge of effective communication principles and promotes communication among disciplines Performs other duties as assigned. What you will need: Education: Bachelor’s Degree in nursing required or Diploma Degree in Nursing and Bachelor’s Degree in Health-Related Field. Masters Degree in Nursing preferred. Certification: Current Professional Nursing Licensure in the State of Illinois. Current nursing specialty certification; if no specialty nursing certification, certification required within one year of assuming role. Current Basic Life Support, Advanced Cardiac Life Support, Pediatric Advanced Life Support and/or Neonatal Resuscitation as applicable to role. Experience: At least five years of clinical experience in a medical center, hospital environment or academic setting. Unique or Preferred Skills: Adult learner knowledge and expertise. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Flexibility in work schedule. Able to effectively interact with colleagues and all members of the interdisciplinary healthcare team. Excellent interpersonal skills with demonstrated ability to engage in dialogue with diverse healthcare audiences. Commitment to teamwork; ability to work with others to set and accomplish goals through collaboration and coordination. Possesses presentation skills necessary to provide education to audiences. Commitment to continued personal professional development as evidenced by attendance at seminars, conferences, maintaining specialty certification, etc. Proficiency in a variety of computer programs (Microsoft Office – Word, Power Point, Excel) Computers and proficiency in virtual meeting platforms. Ability to conduct literature searches to investigate best practices, evidence-based practices, and/or research studies. Specific Applications: Workday. Registered Nurse-SANE Program-Per-Diem Position Highlights: Position: RN SANE Program Location: Evanston Hospital, Emergency Department Hours: must work a minimum of 16 hours of available on-call per six-week schedule. A Brief Overview: The SANE cares for sexual assault Adult/Adolescent survivors while independently performing the medical forensic exams, head to toe nursing assessments, detailed anogenital examination, forensic specimen collection with supportive documentation, and forensic photographic documentation. The SANE must provide timely, non-judgmental, compassionate care to patients presenting to the Emergency Department or hospitalized on an inpatient unit. They will work closely with Emergency Room Physicians, survivor advocates, law enforcement, criminal justice officials and civil attorneys. What you will do: Performs duties of SANE with knowledge of forensic collection, STIs, medication and vicarious trauma towards the survivor. Attends SANE meetings for peer/chart review and information dissemination to ensure compliance and standards according to the Professional Forensic Scopes and Standard Practices, SASETA, and the Illinois Nurse Practice Act. Works collaboratively with the Swedish Hospital Emergency Department, Violence Prevention Program, Illinois State and Chicago Police Departments, Resilience, and the Illinois SANE Coordinator. Attends courtroom proceedings related to Swedish Hospital sexual assault cases. What you will need: Graduate from an accredited school of nursing, BSN preferred. Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in the State of Illinois. Successful completion and certification of AA SANE training through the Office of the Illinois Attorney General or certification is approved by the Office of the Illinois Attorney General SANE Coordinator. Prior experience in forensic nursing preferred. Pass computer literacy for Epic or attend training after hire.
