Position : Full-time Day shift OB Surgical Technologist
Schedule: Work three 12-hour day shifts each week, 7am - 7:30pm
Unit: 10-bed Labor & Delivery unit with 2 OR suites
Hospital : St. Joseph Medical Center, 253-bed acute care hospital with level II trauma center

Position Details: This position is responsible for assisting the Surgical team during operative procedures by performing a variety of technical duties to primarily assist in responsibility for the preparation and maintenance of the surgical sterile field for the obstetrical operative patient and/or her infant.

Essential Functions

Arrange and inventories sterile set-up for operation and passes items as needed to the surgical team.
Understand and apply the principles of asepsis. Establish and maintain sterile field and assure team maintains sterile environment.
Assist in preparation and moving of patients.
Cleans, disinfects, and sterilizes instrumentation. Assists with clean-up and room turnover.
Assists in vaginal births
Access computer information as needed, such as preference lists and digital images.
Maintain unit supplies by requisitioning and receiving supplies then stocking patient rooms and supply areas to meet patient care needs. Inventory control.
Participates in all safety initiatives. Adheres to programs such as SCIP and SCOAP quality initiatives.
Performs other duties as assigned.

Qualifications

Requires: Completion of an accredited Surgical Technology Program or recognized course of training as a Surgical Technologist
Requires: Minimum of 1 year experience as a Surgical Technologist, prefer experience with obstetrical and gynecologic surgeries
Required: Demonstrated knowledge of and ability to apply age specific principles of growth and development and life stages to meet each patient’s needs
Required: Washington State Surgical Technologist Registration
Required: Healthcare Provider Basic Life Support Certification
Preferred: Certified Surgical Technologist

As a Surgical Technologist I, you will be involved in process improvement or quality initiatives related to, but outside of, Perioperative Services. You will assist the nursing and medical staff in providing care to patients undergoing surgical intervention and performance of surgical scrub technologist duties; collaborates with nursing and other disciplines, when necessary, to revise the plan of care to meet the changing needs of the patient. Essential Job Functions: Independently performs surgical scrub role on the operative field and is able to scrub in all services, adult and pediatric. Applies knowledge related to emergency and trauma situations and surgical procedures in the operating room. Post-operatively follows proper procedures for care of instruments, supplies and equipment. Under supervision, assists RN circulator with post-operative duties. Infection Prevention: Assists in the delivery of nursing care in a manner that minimizes the risk of transfer of infection and accidental contamination. Safety: Assists in delivering care in a manner which protects the patient from injury. Continuous Improvement: Care is provided with an emphasis on continually improving quality, service, and cost effectiveness. Age Specific Care: Demonstrates competence in assisting with the performance of age-appropriate patient care that is specific to the unique physiological and anatomic aspects of the life from the very young to the older adult.
