Job Description
The Clinical Nurse IV (CNIV), is an expert clinician who demonstrates a high level of knowledge and expertise in a specialty as well as general nursing. The CN IV consistently demonstrates excellence in all areas of nursing practice including nursing care delivery, staff education, research, and collaboration. Evaluates and works to improve the process of patient care delivery within the unit and division. The CNIV manages complex, unpredictable patient care situations and is a nursing shift leader. Serves as a clinical and operational resource to the nursing staff, the unit, the organization, and the community to promote the advancement of nursing. The CN IV will assume primary responsibility for the mentoring and coaching of a designated group of employees in one of the three professional advancement pathways (Clinical Quality, Education, Leadership) that most closely aligns with their skillset. The CNIV serves as the expert mentor on the unit with the goal of increasing nurse engagement, professional development of their staff, and safe quality care with improved outcomes.The scope of responsibility, duties and accountability at the facility department and position levels including knowledge and practice of the clinical/technical skills necessary to the position consistent with the Nurse Practice Act. Nursing job duties are to meet the Nurse Practice Act (state law that protects patients by promoting safe, competent nursing practices), Title 22 (Health and Safety codes), The Joint Commission (develops performance standards and accredits programs for hospitals and other healthcare-related organizations) and the Plan for Provision of Nursing Care and the Plan for Provision of Care to Patients, and other regulatory requirements.
Qualifications
Education- Bachelor's Degree Bachelor's of Science Nursing (state accredited program) - minimum
Experience
- 5 years Experience within a specialty area - minimum
- 1 year Must be a Clinical Nurse III at CSMC for at least one (1) year, to be promoted within the clinical ladder - minimum
Licenses and Certifications
- RN State License - Upon Hire minimum California State RN License
- Basic Life Support (BLS) - Upon Hire minimum Require BLS unless a higher level of certification is required. As required by your specialty unit.
- Other – See Department Specifics - 1 Year minimum Other Competencies, as required by your specialty unit (ex. ACLS, PALS, fetal heart monitoring)
- ANCC Specialty Certification - 1 Year minimum Specialty Certification
