  • UT Health Athens is a 127-bed facility, including a 24-hour ED, designated as a Level IV trauma center and Level III stroke center; advanced diagnostic technology; 10-bed ICU; maternity unit radiation therapy center; and a stand-alone ED in Gun Barrel City.

Responsibilities

  • Administers care to a patient population ranging from newborn to geriatric and utilizes a collaborative, multidisciplinary approach to ensure that each patient receives nursing care appropriate to his/her illness or injury.
  • Prioritizes patient care need based on the patient assessment and uses the nursing process to implement a plan of care appropriate to each patient’s needs.
  • Delivers care consistent with physician’s orders and treatment protocols and in accordance with hospital and departmental policy.

Qualifications

Job Requirements:

  • High school diploma or equivalent
  • Degree in nursing from an accredited school of professional nursing
  • Current Texas RN license
  • Basic Cardiac Life Support required within 14 days of hire and before providing direct patient care
  • Advanced Cardiac Life Support (ACLS) required before end of orientation
  • Pediatric Advanced Life Support (PALS) or Emergency Nurse Pediatric Course (ENPC) required before end of orientation
  • NIHSS (National Institute of Health Stroke Scale) certification required before end of orientation

Preferred Qualifications:

  • One year of emergency nursing experience
  • Two years of acute care nursing experience
  • CEN
  • Trauma Nurse Core Course (TNCC)

Administer ongoing care/infusions for each patient, and provide necessary follow-up as directed by the Physician and Clinical Manager. Confer with physicians and pharmacies to develop the initial treatment plan based on the physician's orders and the initial patient assessment. Provide hands-on care, management, and evaluation of the care plan and teaching of the patient under a physician based on ongoing assessments and as required by policy/regulation. Report patient care, conditions, and progress to the patient's physician, pharmacy, and Clinical Manager continuously. Implement patient care plan in conjunction with patient and family to assist them in achieving optimal resolution of needs/problems. Discharge patients after consultation with the physician and Clinical Manager, preparing and completing needed clinical documentation. Prepare appropriate medical documentation on all patients, including case conferences, patient contacts, medication order changes, re-certifications, progress updates, and care plan changes. Prepare visit/shift reports, update/summarize patient records, and confer with other healthcare disciplines to provide optimal patient care.
