Overview

As an Ophthalmology RN, your strong detail orientation and multi-tasking skills will be essential in our fast-paced, high-volume environment. You will provide a safe and efficient environment for all patients in our Ambulatory Surgical Center (ASC) during the perioperative phases

Responsibilities

  • Greets and admit patients to the pre-/post-operative area
  • Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates patient care using the nursing process and take into account individual patient needs
  • Prepares operating suite for patients - monitor cleanliness, assemble supplies, instruments and sutures, check equipment for proper functioning
  • Assesses patient’s condition on arrival in surgery and provide physical or emotional support as needed
  • Assists Anesthesia Provider and Surgeon during procedures, maintaining constant awareness of the operative situation and a safe environment for patients and personnel
  • Evaluates, observes, and treats patients under local anesthesia
  • Maintains accurate and complete records of patients’ surgical experience
  • Starts IVs, gives medications, and prepares drugs and solutions per physician protocols
  • Prepares for and manages immediate postoperative care, including transporting patients to recovery room, communicating patient needs, and providing patient and family training
  • Assists in orientation of new team members and cross-training of existing personnel
  • Obtains patient history through interviews and evaluations, noting data in chart and sharing pertinent information with physician

Qualifications

  • Associate’s degree required; BSN preferred
  • Current RN License
  • 1-year Ophthalmology experience as a Surgery RN is a plus
  • BLS certification required
  • ASC experience preferred
  • Bilingual preferred
  • Detailed oriented, reliable and able to multi-task in a fast-paced, high-volume work environment
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills
  • This is a Safety Sensitive position

Supervising care treatment and services of client care provided by LPNs, CNAs and other staff on assigned unit and shift. Developing, implementing, and evaluating an individual plan of care for each client. Assessment and re-assessment of clients. Communicating appropriate information with the interdisciplinary team. Reporting client concerns and changes in condition to supervisor and/or provider in a timely manner. Roles and Responsibilities: ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS: Provides and coordinates care by assessing physical and behavioral health needs of client, develops and implements nursing care plans, maintains medical records and educates clients and their families about various physical and behavioral health conditions while ensuring client safety at all times. Assesses clients’ status on an ongoing basis and communicates finding to the providers timely. Ensures nursing treatment plans are specific to assessed needs and initial treatment plan is completed upon admission. Obtains provider’s orders (verbal or via telephone) accurately and documents appropriately; transcribes and reviews provider’s orders ensuring all required elements are present and appropriate per policy and procedures. Accurately administers medications, per ordered ,utilizing at least two client identifiers. Notifies providers of significant changes in status such as difficulties with detox, medical emergencies, pertinent lab results, or change in medical status regarding response to medications, etc. Assesses and documents effects of PRN medications. Maintains accountability of administration, recording, control and security of medications, including narcotics. Completes admission and discharge processes efficiently and accurately as directed. Attends and participates in the unit activities such as therapy groups, family meetings as appropriate, staffing, unit meetings, etc. Provides education/explanation to clients, families, and co-workers regarding medication usage/maintenance, common side effects, client's rights, as well as other topics necessary for optimal client care. Monitors client acuity, census, staffing needs, and escalates coverage needs to supervisor/Charge RN. Ensures thorough, accurate documentation is completed for all clients on each shift and client assignment sheets are completed daily and tasks are carried out as assigned. Communicates thorough hand-off reports to oncoming staff and supervisors. EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE/SKILL REQUIREMENTS: Graduation from an approved/accredited school of nursing. One or more years’ nursing experience within clinical area of service provided by facility preferred. Experience in behavioral health/psychiatric/addiction recovery environment preferred. Knowledge of and experience with psychotropic medications and medication administration procedures.
