Role Description The Clinical Quality Improvement Specialist (RN) is a full-time, on-site role based at Staten Island University Hospital in Staten Island, NY. This role focuses on assessing, developing, and implementing quality improvement initiatives that enhance clinical outcomes, patient safety, and adherence to regulatory and accreditation standards. Day-to-day responsibilities include analyzing clinical data and performance metrics, identifying trends and opportunities for improvement, and collaborating with interdisciplinary teams to design and execute evidence-based interventions. The specialist participates in staff education and training, supports clinical teams in adopting best practices, and monitors the effectiveness of quality improvement projects through ongoing evaluation and reporting. The role also involves contributing to policy development, maintaining documentation required for compliance, and promoting a culture of continuous improvement across units.

Qualifications

• Candidates should possess strong communication skills, including the ability to present data, lead discussions, and collaborate effectively with multidisciplinary teams.
• Candidates should possess a solid foundation in medicine and clinical care, with expertise in nursing practice and patient safety principles.
• Candidates should possess skills in training and education, with experience developing and delivering learning sessions or competency-based programs for clinical staff.
• Candidates should possess research and clinical research skills, including the ability to interpret evidence, utilize data for quality initiatives, and support outcomes measurement.
• Active, unrestricted Registered Nurse (RN) license in New York State required; BSN preferred, advanced degree in healthcare or quality improvement is an advantage.
• Experience in clinical quality improvement, performance improvement, or patient safety within an acute care or teaching hospital setting strongly preferred.
• Familiarity with regulatory and accreditation requirements (e.g., Joint Commission, CMS), quality metrics, and tools such as root cause analysis and PDSA cycles beneficial.
• Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, use electronic health records and data analysis tools, and maintain a detail-oriented, organized approach.
