The Women and Infant Services unit at FMH is a 17 bed LDRP unit with a four bay triage, an OR located on the unit and a level 2 NICU nearby. Averaging 80-100 deliveries a month, the L&D team stays busy. Working with OB-GYN, Family Practice and Certified Nurse Midwives, the care provided to our patients is individualized and supportive of the entire family unit.

Responsibilities

  • Assesses patient physical, psychological, social, spiritual, educational, developmental, cultural, and discharge planning needs. Reviews patient history and physical with patient/family and assures completion within appropriate timeframe. Reviews available information obtained by other health care team members. Reviews diagnostics and laboratory data and reports abnormal results to the physician(s) and other appropriate caregivers. Completes assessment and reassessments according to patient need and as outlined in policy.
  • Formulates a plan of care, including the discharge plan, utilizing assessment data and patient, family and health team input. Initiates a plan of care based on patient-specific needs, assessment data and the medical plan of care. Goals for patient are realistic, measurable and developed in conjunction with the patient/family. Considers the physical, cultural, psychosocial, spiritual, age specific and educational needs of the patient in the plan of are. Plans care in collaboration with members of the multidisciplinary team. Reviews and revises the plan of care to reflect changing patient needs based on evaluation of the patient's status.
  • Implements the plan of care through direct patient care, coordination, delegation, and supervision of the activities of the health care team. Provides care based on physician orders and the nursing plan of care. Provides care in compliance with policies and procedures, standards of care, and regulatory agency requirements. Delegates appropriately, and provides nursing supervision in the provision of care to patients by other licensed nurses and other personnel. Promotes continuity of care by accurately and completely communicating to other caregivers the status of patients for whom care is provided.
  • Evaluates patient and family response to care and teaching, and revises the plan of care as needed. Evaluates patient progress towards goals and expected outcomes in collaboration with other health care team members. Evaluates patient response and the effectiveness of teaching.
  • Documents assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation in the patient record. Documentation is legible, timely, and in accordance with policy. Documentation reflects objective/subjective data, nursing interventions and patient response to treatment. Notes physician orders accurately and in a timely manner.
  • Provides care based on the best evidence available, and may participate in research activities within clinical practice. Participates in unit or facility shared leadership. Interacts and participates in the education, role development, and orientation of facility personnel, patients, students, families and visitors. Promotes/supports growth of others by acting as a preceptor or mentor when appropriate.
  • Contributes to society through activities that lead to excellent patient outcomes through timely, effective, efficient, equitable, and safe care. Actively participates in the improvement of national nursing quality indicators and outcomes. Such activities may include participating in professional organizations.
  • In some roles, this position may supervise staff and work flow of the department. 
  • Performs all functions according to established policies, procedures, regulatory and accreditation requirements, as well as applicable professional standards.     Qualifications

    Must possess a valid current or temporary Alaska RN license. Requires the knowledge and skills normally demonstrated by an Associate's degree in nursing. BLS certification is required. May require ACLS, PALS, or additional certification and/or continuing education based on area of practice. Requires creative thinking, prioritizing, and flexible problem solving skills. Also requires the ability to communicate clearly in both verbal and written forms.PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONSBachelor's degree preferred. Professional certification preferred.Experience working in an acute care setting within the past 12 months as a Registered Nurse in the specialty area.Additional related education and/or experience preferred.

    Nurse RN - Float Pool | Labor and Delivery | FT

    Overview The Registered Nurse (RN) provides nursing care to patients utilizing the nursing process and standards of practice for a professional nurse. The RN is expected to perform all staff nurse activities and function as charge nurse when assigned. The RN maintains overall accountability/responsibility for assigned patients, even though some activities/tasks may be delegated to Technical Nurses, Patient Care Associates, and/or Sitters. Assignments are performed appropriately to age and developmental level of patients being served. The Float RN will be required to float to various areas to care for med surg/progressive care patients. Qualifications Required Education: Associate's Degree Specific course work: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing. New hires effective June 14, 2017, must have a BSN degree from an accredited school of nursing within three (3) years of hire or transfer into the position. New hires or transfers into in the position between August 1, 2013 and June 13, 2017 must abide with the conditions in his or her offer letter and the verbiage in the job description signed upon hire or transfer into the position. Current employees who were hired or transferred into the position prior to August 1, 2013 will be grandfathered. Preferred Education: BSN Required Licensure/Certifications: Licensed to practice nursing in the state of Florida BLS from the American Heart Association is required for all areas. ACLS from the American Heart Association is required at hire or transfer for the following departments: Cardiac Holding Area (730501), CVICU (730400), MICU (700400), PICU (660401), North Pre Op/PACU (633680) and Trauma Center (713100). ACLS from the American Heart Association is required within six (6) months of hire or transfer for the following departments: 3 ICU-North (620480), 5N CCU (730301), Cardiac Rehab (733100), Non Invasive Cardiology North (733080), and Noninvasive Cardiac Lab (733000). ACLS from the American Heart Association is required within six (6) months of hire or transfer for Progressive Registered Nurses in Intensive Care Units. PALS from the American Heart Association is required within six (6) months of hire or transfer for the following departments: PICU (660401) and Trauma Center (713100). Crisis Prevention Institute training within ninety (90) days, and then annually, is required for Psych Unit. Preferred Licensure/Certifications: Professional certification preferred. Required Experience: Less than one year of related experience. Preferred Experience: One (1) year of clinical experience Necessary Skills: 1. Demonstrates teamwork and communicates in a professional manner with all members of the healthcare team. 2.
