This position is located at Carilion New River Valley Medical Center (CNRVMC) in Christiansburg, VA working full time, 4 10-hour days or 5 8-hour days. 10-12 days of call per month, including weekends.

Sign on bonus up to $30,000 and relocation assistance available. Call required with 30-minute response time.

The RN CVT I assists physician with direct patient care during catheterization or interventional procedures in the scrub, circulator, and monitor positions. Delivers quality service through a team-oriented, collaborative approach to care for adult and geriatric patients. provides direct assistance to physicians and patient to achieve optimum outcomes. Prepares patient and technically advanced equipment for advanced invasive procedures.

The RN CVT I

  • Assists physician with direct patient care during catheterization or interventional procedures in the scrub, circulator, and monitor positions. Delivers quality service through a team-oriented, collaborative approach to care for adult and geriatric patients.
  • Provides direct assistance to physicians and patient to achieve optimum outcomes. Prepares patient and technically advanced equipment for advanced invasive procedures. Scrubs and assists physician during procedures. Advises and plans with physicians on procedural strategies and supplies. Assists in emergent conditions.
  • Assures patient, physician, and team needs are met during procedure. Serves as patient advocate, advising on sedation and pain medication for patient comfort. Obtains and sets up procedural supplies and equipment. Operates digital x-ray equipment and administers medications under the supervision and guidance of a licensed physician. Uses advanced critical thinking skills to manage emergency situations.
  • Monitors and interprets EKG and hemodynamics during procedures. Inputs data from patient history, labs, and current case proceedings including equipment/supplies and documentation for ACC, conscious sedation, pain management, and medication administration. Performs basic data manipulation to obtain value areas, shunt calculation, and cardiac outputs.
  • Participates as part of procedure team to provide specific patient care functions such as transport, sheath removal, closure site care, etc. Participates in providing and assuring informed consent and patient education.
  • Contributes to Carilion Clinic's scorecard, performance improvement activities, and mission. Actively participates in obtaining desired service line outcome.
  • Provides Procedural Sedation according to the guidelines set forth in the Carilion Clinic “Procedural Sedation/Analgesia, Care of Patients Receiving” policy for patients greater than 12 years of age. Maintains appropriate credential to monitor patients receiving sedation/analgesia.

What We Require:

Education: Graduate of an accredited school of nursing required.


Experience: None.


Licensure, Certification, and/or Registration: Current Registered Nurse (RN)

license in the state of Virginia required.


Life Support: Current AHA BLS-HCP certification required. Must successfully complete AHA ACLS within six months of hire and maintain current certification.


Other Minimum Qualifications: Effective interpersonal, communication, and teamwork skills required.
