We are seeking an experienced and proactive Assistant Director of Nursing (ADON) – Risk Management to join our clinical leadership team. This role is ideal for an RN leader with strong clinical, regulatory, and risk management experience who is passionate about improving resident outcomes and maintaining the highest standards of care.
The ADON/Risk Management professional will work closely with the Director of Nursing and interdisciplinary leadership team to identify risks, implement corrective actions, support regulatory compliance, and promote a culture of safety throughout the facility.
Responsibilities
Assist the Director of Nursing with the overall clinical operations of the nursing department.
Lead and oversee the facility's risk management and resident safety programs.
Monitor incidents, accidents, adverse events, and potential areas of clinical risk.
Conduct investigations and develop appropriate corrective action plans.
Identify trends and implement strategies to prevent recurring incidents.
Assist with Quality Assurance and Performance Improvement (QAPI) initiatives.
Review clinical documentation, care plans, and resident records for compliance and quality.
Monitor falls, skin issues, medication errors, infections, hospitalizations, and other quality indicators.
Ensure appropriate follow-up and documentation of incidents and clinical concerns.
Collaborate with nursing leadership, physicians, therapy, social services, and other members of the interdisciplinary team.
Provide education and training to nursing staff regarding clinical practices, risk prevention, and regulatory requirements.
Assist with state and federal surveys and maintain ongoing survey readiness.
Ensure compliance with CMS, state Department of Health, OSHA, and facility policies.
Support the development and implementation of nursing policies and procedures.
Assist with staff supervision, performance management, and clinical competency initiatives.
Serve as a clinical resource and mentor to nursing staff.
Qualifications
Current and active Registered Nurse (RN) license in the applicable state.
Bachelor's degree in Nursing (BSN) preferred.
Previous ADON, Assistant DON, Nurse Manager, Risk Manager, or similar nursing leadership experience strongly preferred.
Skilled Nursing Facility, Long-Term Care, or Rehabilitation experience required/preferred.
Strong knowledge of CMS regulations, state requirements, quality measures, and survey processes.
Experience with incident investigation, risk management, QAPI, and clinical audits.
Excellent leadership, communication, organizational, and critical-thinking skills.
Ability to identify problems, develop solutions, and effectively follow through.
Strong understanding of resident rights, infection prevention, and clinical documentation standards.
