Position Summary

The Certified Surgical Technologist/LVN Surgical Technologist and the Surgical Technologist assist in the nursing care and preparation of surgical patients in the Outpatient and Main Operating Room. He/she functions as a member of the sterile team in donning gown and gloves, creating and maintaining a sterile field and issuing instruments to surgeons utilizing AORN standards of care.

Qualifications

  • Education:

Current Surgical Technologist Certification or eligible upon hire or transfer to the department. Surgical Technologist I and II must obtain Certified Surgical Technologist (CST) certification within six (6) months of hire or transfer to position. Surgical Technologists who were employed before September 1, 2009, may remain employed as surgical technologists without meeting the certification requirement.

  • Training and Experience:
  • Current Basic Life Support (BLS) Certification through the American Heart Association (AHA) upon hire or transfer to department.
  • Complete the following competencies within three (3) months of hire or transfer to department:
  • Aseptic technique
  • Gowning and gloving
  • Surgical hand scrub
  • Surgical case preparation
  • Sterile case set-up
  • Surgical draping
  • Intraoperative actions
  • Postoperative actions
  • ST and CST levels are based off of a point system designed in the career ladder.
  • Basic DaVinci Robotic Surgery proficiency-within one (1) year for

new hires; within two(2) years of signing job description for tenured staff.
