Final compensation is based on applicable appointment details, FTE, institutional guidelines, and any governing policies or agreements.

$30,000 CRNA Sign-On Bonus

Newly hired external CRNAs are eligible for a $30,000 sign-on bonus, prorated by FTE, in exchange for a two-year commitment.

Relocation Assistance Available

Newly hired CRNAs may be eligible to receive up to $10,000 in relocation assistance to support their move to Michigan Medicine.

Responsibilities*

Provide anesthesia and anesthesia related care to facilitate diagnostic, therapeutic and/or surgical procedures to all patients regardless of age under the medical direction of an anesthesiologist, working collaboratively in a team environment . Prepare preoperative assessments including health histories and physical examinations. Develop the Anesthesia Care Plan with the anesthesiologist. Initiate and maintain appropriate perioperative anesthesia care. Maintain appropriate patient records including quality assurance documentation. Complete postoperative evaluations in accordance with department policies. Participate in ongoing projects. Support perioperative providers. Other duties or projects as assigned. Function in accordance with all institutional policies and guidelines. Maintain licensure, certification, credentialing, and current BLS and ACLS or PALS status at all times. This position requires radiation exposure and the requirement to wear the appropriate (PPE) personal protective equipment. Must be able to fulfill required weekend obligations. Must be self-directed, reliable, demonstrate initiative and motivation to work independently, and demonstrate excellent communication and problem solving skills.

Required Qualifications*

  • Current and accurate resume and application must be completed.
  • Minimum of a Masters degree from an accredited nurse anesthesia educational program.
  • Current Michigan RN license and certification as a nurse anesthetist.
  • Two years FTE of pediatric ICU nursing experience.
  • Two years FTE of nurse anesthesia experience.
  • Current ACLS or PALS certification.


Desired Qualifications*

  • Five years FTE of pediatric ICU nursing experience.
  • Two years FTE of pediatric nurse anesthesia experience.
  • Five years FTE of nurse anesthesia experience.
  • Completion of pediatric nurse anesthesia fellowship.
  • Doctoral degree from an accredited educational program.
  • Demonstration of appropriate interpersonal and communication skills.

Required qualifications must be met by the candidate in order to be fully considered and interviewed for the position. Hire offer will be contingent upon satisfaction of all required qualifications including successful completion of the credentialing process.

Modes of Work

Work Schedule

Hours: 40 hours per week

Shift: Day/Night rotation; variable shift start times and shift length.

Union Affiliation

This position is covered under the collective bargaining agreement between the U-M and the Michigan Nurses Association and the U-M Professional Nurse Council union, which contains and settles all matters with respect to wages, benefits, hours and other terms and conditions of employment.

The CRNA provides anesthesia for all types of pediatric patients undergoing surgical or other procedures necessitating anesthesia as part of the anesthesia care team with an anesthesiologist. Anesthesia will be provided according to standards of care and the standards of the Department of Anesthesiology in accordance with hospital policies and procedures. The CRNA will provide care for the patient from the preoperative through postoperative destination. The CRNA will provide continuous vigilant observation and monitoring of the patient’s status in response to any administered anesthetic and makes necessary adjustments. Provides timely notification to attending anesthesiologist regarding any and all critical events, changes in status, or any condition that threatens the safety or care of the patient. MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS: EDUCATION, CERTIFICATION, AND/OR LICENSURE: 1. Graduate of an accredited School of Nurse Anesthesia. 2. Current licensure as a Registered Nurse in West Virginia. 3. Current licensure as an Advanced Practice Registered Nurse in West Virginia. 4. Current certification with National Board of Certification and Recertification for Nurse Anesthetists. 5. Active membership in American Association of Nurse Anesthetists. EXPERIENCE: 1. One (1) year of experience as a CRNA. 2. Completion of a minimum 15 pediatric anesthesia cases < 6yrs of age. 3. Manages anesthetics starting in pre-operative through induction, maintenance, and emergence from anesthesia and or delivery to ICU or appropriate recovery area with report given to receiving team. 7. Administers intravenous fluids, blood, and blood products as indicated for patient’s condition. 8. Excluding emergencies, necessary blood and blood products transfused after Hct or Hgb are known and plan discussed with anesthesiologist. 9. Appropriately documents all necessary data points in the patient’s electronic health record/anesthesia record. 10. Performs all required safety checks on anesthesia equipment and verify presence of necessary supplies before case, including procuring and assembling supplies as indicated if anesthesia technician is not available. 11. In accordance with departmental policies and regulatory standards, CRNA will receive report from pre-op RN to review informed consents, ID correct surgical site, and review any pre-op antibiotics or medications during SBAR report with OR RN in pre-operative area. 12. Participates in surgical pause in the intraoperative phase of care. 13. Communicates effectively and professionally with all members of the perioperative team. 14. In a life-threatening emergency, functions to provide care in the absence of an anesthesiologist. 15. Participates in the orientation, and/or teaching of a variety of learners including SRNA’s, residents, medics, nurses, etc. 16.
