Job Summary This position is a 12-week internship program which prepares the new Graduate Nurse for a Registered Nurse position on a general care pediatric unit. Orientation includes a combination of educational sessions and precepted bedside clinical experience. A two (2) year commitment with a minimum of 30 hours/week (0.75 FTR) is required for candidates hired through the internship program. This internship is a joint venture between 12 West, 11 West, and 12 East. During the interview process, unit selection will occur. Education will be provided in a group and unit-based settings. Precepted bedside experience will occur on the onboarding unit. This posting will be used to hire a graduate nurse internship position in pediatric general care units. Internship cohort will have a start date of February 18th, 2027. Flexibility will be available for hours to range from 32-40 hours per week. Brief Descriptions Of Each Unit Below 12 West Mott is a 32-bed pediatric medical-surgical unit, with an age range from infant to young adult. The primary services include orthopedic surgery, trauma, rehabilitation, nephrology, urology, kidney transplant, neurology, neurosurgery, and endocrinology. Up to 11 beds on the unit can be utilized to for the care of stable pediatric patients requiring mechanical ventilation. 11 West is a 32-bed unit that is part of the Michigan Congenital Heart Center, including up to 12 moderate care beds for patients requiring closer monitoring and observation. We provide family centered care to pediatric cardiology and cardiac surgery patients ranging in age from newborn to young adult. 12 East is a 32-bed Pediatric Acute Care Unit that provides comprehensive care with a primary focus on gastrointestinal (GI), pulmonary, pediatric surgery, pediatric burn, and neonatal populations. Our "fish" philosophy keeps us grounded and committed to being there for each other. Required Qualifications* The candidate must be a Graduate Nurse or a newly licensed in the State of Michigan as a Registered Nurse. The candidate must not have yet practiced as a Registered Nurse. The orientation period will be a combination of day and nightshifts to meet orientation and learning needs. Typically this encompasses those patients with peripheral vascular diseases, cancer, hepatic, pancreatic or renal failure, cardiac and pulmonary disease. Often these patients present with multi-system failure requiring swan ganz monitoring, ventilator support, parenteral nutrition and fluid and electrolyte corrections. In addition, SICU receives adult liver transplants and is a major referral center for adult ECMO/Respiratory failure patients. This ICU also may receive overflow from the Trauma, Neuro, Medicine and Cardiac Intensive Care Units.
