Qualifications:

  • Texas Certified Nurse Aide
  • Minimum of 6 months experience

General Duties:

  • Perform all duties as assigned and in accordance with facility’s established policies and procedures, nursing care procedures and safety rules and regulations.
  • Make resident rounds at the beginning of each shift and every two hours thereafter to administer quality nursing care.
  • Verify the identification of a resident before administering nursing care or serving food, to assure that appropriate care is being provided to the correct resident.
  • Assure that water pitchers are cleaned, filled with fresh drinking water and within the resident’s reach.
  • Other related duties as may become necessary or as directed by the Charge Nurse, RN Supervisor, Director of Nurses, or Administrator.

A CMA is under the direct supervision of the charge nurse. The charge nurse will follow up with the CMA to ensure the med pass is completed timely and accurately to assure that the highest degree of quality resident care can be maintained at all times.

QUALIFICATIONS :

  • Ability to communicate effectively in English through both speech and writing.
  • Previous patient care experience preferred.
  • Current certification for Medication Aide.

RESPONSIBLITIES

  • Reports promptly any change of patient condition or other concerns to Patient Care Supervisor.
  • Follow charting guidelines for PRN documentation.
  • Reports medication reorder.
  • Participates in all assigned meetings, trainings, education and in-service as required.
  • Inventory documentation of drugs on appropriate forms.
  • Current certification for Medication Aide.

Assists with monthly medication records as needed. Assists with cycle fill or re-ordering of medications. Understands and returns medications for credit as needed. Monitors medications that arrive from the pharmacy. Timely notifies the pharmacy of any discrepancies Maintains the supplies, cleanliness, organization and re-stocking of the medication room and medication cart. Orders supplies as directed by the Charge Nurse. Has knowledge of, and can demonstrate proper technique, or can learn how to assist with: a gait belt, sit to stand lift, transfer board, catheter, specimen, transfer pole, trapeze, wheel chair, scale, and other equipment as directed by the Charge Nurse or Unit Manager. Capable of taking accurate vital signs and weights. Accurately begins a medication error report if necessary. Fills in as a Certified Nursing Assistant when needed. Capable of assisting in care needs of residents, which might include lifting requirements up to 40 pounds. Serves meals as needed and assists with setting tables and post meal clean-up as assigned. Faxes pharmacy to order medications. Calls pharmacy to follow up on medications that have not arrived. Answers call lights or finds a partner to answer a call light, if in the middle of a med pass. KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES Assists residents with transportation and appointments as needed. Read the 24 hour communication book and respond as necessary to issues. Review all incident reports and residents on alert status Read any new interim care plans that could have been initiated.
