What You'll Do
- Greet and prepare patients for OB/GYN examinations, procedures, and follow-up visits by obtaining vital signs, medical and obstetric histories, medication information, and other pertinent clinical data.
- Accurately document patient information, clinical observations, services, and required documentation in the EHR; review charts for completeness and ensure laboratory results, imaging, consult notes, and other records are available for provider review.
- Assist OB/GYN or Women's Health providers with examinations, treatments, procedures, and routine women's health services in accordance with established clinical protocols and standing orders.
- Support prenatal and postpartum visits by obtaining relevant histories, vital signs, screening information, and other clinical data and assisting providers with routine prenatal care.
- Administer medications, injections, immunizations, and other treatments according to provider orders, standing orders, organizational policies, current CDC recommendations, and applicable California requirements.
- Perform medication reconciliation, identify discrepancies or concerns, and communicate findings to the provider.
- Provide patient education regarding medications, treatment plans, prenatal and postpartum care, contraception, preventive health, follow-up care, and other women's health topics within the scope of practice.
- Perform routine clinical screenings and assessments, including blood pressure, pulse oximetry, BMI, pregnancy testing, and other age-appropriate or condition-specific screenings.
- Obtain and review patient consents and ensure required documentation for examinations, procedures, testing, and treatment is complete and accurate.
- Collect, label, process, and prepare gynecologic, prenatal, and other specimens for laboratory testing in accordance with proper handling, documentation, and transport procedures.
- Coordinate patient care through referrals, imaging, laboratory services, prescriptions, appointment scheduling, orders, and follow-up activities.
- Communicate laboratory and diagnostic results to patients in accordance with provider direction and established protocols and ensure appropriate follow-up is completed.
- Monitor patients for adverse reactions to medications, immunizations, procedures, and treatments and promptly report concerns to the provider.
- Support preventive women's health initiatives, including reproductive health education, cancer screening, immunization review, and patient education.
- Maintain clean, organized, and properly stocked exam rooms, procedure rooms, equipment, supplies, and emergency preparedness materials in accordance with safety and infection control standards.
- Follow appropriate infection prevention and control practices, including proper use of personal protective equipment and sterilization or disinfection procedures.
- Support efficient patient flow and front- and back-office operations, including discharge, phone calls, scheduling, referrals, and coordination of follow-up appointments.
- Participate in quality improvement, productivity, compliance, and documentation initiatives and maintain compliance with HIPAA and applicable healthcare regulations.
- Contribute to a collaborative team environment, assist with staff training and onboarding, and demonstrate flexibility in supporting clinical functions and departmental needs.
- Provide compassionate, culturally responsive, trauma-informed, and patient-centered care in a fast-paced community health setting.
- Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program.
- Bilingual English/Spanish skills preferred.
- Current CPR certification or willingness to obtain certification prior to hire.
- At least one year of outpatient Medical Assistant experience preferred.
- Experience in OB/GYN, women's health, prenatal care, reproductive health, family practice, community health, or a similar outpatient setting is a plus.
- Familiarity with gynecologic examinations, Pap testing, specimen collection, pregnancy testing, and other women's health procedures preferred.
- Strong communication, organization, clinical, and patient-service skills.
- Ability to work effectively in a fast-paced, team-oriented environment.
- Commitment to providing compassionate, culturally responsive, and patient-centered care to patients across diverse backgrounds and stages of life.
- PTO: 7.08 hours accrued per pay period (26 pay periods per year)
