JOB DESCRIPTION: Substitute School Nurse

POSITION SUMMARY:
  • The Substitute School Nurse is responsible for managing a health services program at the school site for the assessment, evaluation, maintenance, and improvement of the health of students in the absence of the School Nurse.
CHARACTERISTIC DUTIES AND RESPONSIBILITIES:

The Substitute School Nurse:

  1. Administers basic health care and First Aid in the absence of the School Nurse for the purpose of providing appropriate care for ill, medically fragile and/or injured children. *


  1. Performs health screenings, informs parents of identified problems and makes appropriate recommendations for interventions. *


  1. Administers and/or facilitates administration of medication at school per district policy. *


  1. Develops, implements, and/or utilizes individualized health care plans developed by a licensed healthcare provider for students with special health care needs in collaboration with students, their families, staff, licensed healthcare providers, and other agencies as appropriate.


  1. Maintains school health records. *


  1. Prepares and submits reports as required. *


  1. Works closely with students who are identified as having a health-related disability by providing direct nursing services, monitoring progress with respect to health conditions, and consulting with students, teachers, parents, and other licensed healthcare providers.


  1. Responds appropriately to student behavior in the total school environment by enforcing school rules in hallways, on school grounds, in other school areas away from the classroom, and on school-sponsored trips. *


  1. Participates in professional growth (such as professional organizations, coursework, workshops, and conferences) and other professional activities (such as school and/or District committees, taskforces, in-depth studies, or councils).


  1. Follows the policies and procedures of the school and the District. *


  1. Demonstrates a sense of professional responsibility, such as demonstrating ethical behavior; providing accurate data and reports when needed; meeting deadlines; maintaining confidentiality; caring for the equipment and materials; and dressing appropriately and presenting a good role model. *

ENTRY QUALIFICATIONS:

Education:Bachelor's Degree; current license to practice as a registered nurse in Wyoming.

Work Experience:Prior experience working as a registered nurse is preferred.

Job Requirements A Day in the Life of a Wound Care Nurse The Wound Care Nurse coordinates treatments to provide comprehensive wound assessments and plan-of-care including goals, implementation of treatment, evaluation, and outcomes for patients in the outpatient clinic and throughout the organization.
