About the Role
The Advanced Practice Nurse (APN) is a skilled health provider who through a written collaborative practice agreement with a physician is credentialed through the Medical Staff Office. As a member of the Medical Staff the APN demonstrates standards of professional practice that includes ethical decision making, job activities related to quality assessment/improvement, self-evaluation, leadership, and research. The APN is self-directed and purposeful in seeking necessary knowledge and skills to develop and maintain competency. The APN in the Medical Practice utilizes critical judgment in the performance of comprehensive health assessments, differential diagnosis and the prescribing of pharmacologic and non-pharmacologic treatments in the direct management of patients diagnosed with a variety ofMedical conditions/diseases. The APN practice will promote wellness through conducting research, providing education and works autonomously as well as in interdisciplinary teams as resources and consultants.
Responsibilities
What You’ll Do
- Collects comprehensive patient health data/history including past and present medical, surgical, family and social history. Diagnostic tests and procedures relevant to the patient’s status are collected and interpreted
- Completes the medication reconciliation process by documenting the current list of medications (including over the counter and nutritional supplements) taken by patient at each visit.
- Performs and documents an appropriate comprehensive physical assessment of patients which will include a review of systems, evaluation of manifestations and toxicities related to medical conditions and anticoagulation management.

- In collaboration with the physician, critically analyzes the assessment data/diagnostic tests and determines a diagnosis. In addition, develops a comprehensive plan of care that includes interventions of treatments to attain outcomes.
- Prescribes and/or orders medications on a New Jersey Prescription blank, signs his/her name on the prescription, certification number and prints his/her name.
Qualifications
What You’ll Bring
Required:
- A current Registered/Professional Nurse license and registration in the State of New Jersey is required.
- Completion of an educationalprogram which is designed and conducted to prepare graduates to practice as an NP/APN with a master’s degree in nursing and eligible forcertification by a national certifying body.
- Evidence of excellent interpersonal skills, effective communication skills, and creative problem solving are essential.
- A minimum of two (2) years of clinical nursing experience and current BLS certification are required.
Credential Required:
- Current NJ License and Registration; Certified as an Advanced Practice Nurse, by the Board of Nursing, with specialization as indicated; BLS

Compensation
In compliance with New Jersey’s Pay Transparency Act, the salary range for this position is US/07S: $136,294 - $155,115.29 - $180,084.03. University Hospital considers multiple factors when determining compensation, including (but not limited to) the scope and responsibilities of the position, the candidate’s relevant work experience, education and training, key skills, internal equity, market data, and organizational needs. The expected salary range for this position is in accordance with the New Jersey Pay Transparency Law; final compensation will be commensurate with experience and qualifications.
