Summary

GENERAL SUMMARY: 

Responsible for facilitating access to Medical Center services. Utilizes effective communication and documentation with  physicians, physician staff, health care facilities, patients and patient representatives to collect and analyze pertinent clinical data as related to the procedure(s) scheduled, intervening to prevent problems that could result in adverse patient outcomes or delayed/cancelled procedures. Provides exemplary customer service and interacts in a professional, courteous manner with co-workers, physicians, patients and the public. 

 

PRINCIPAL JOB FUNCTIONS: 

  1. *Commits to the mission, vision, beliefs and consistently demonstrates our core values. 

  1. *Performs multi-resource appointment scheduling for inpatient/outpatient diagnostic and therapeutic services received from physician and/or physician staff. Obtains patient information including medical necessity/diagnosis, demographics, and pertinent clinical information as related to the procedure(s) scheduled. Collects and documents information beyond that listed in procedural questionnaire based on critical assessment of patient history. 

  1. *Integrates physical, mental and cultural considerations in scheduling of patient procedure(s), coordinating services to ensure the Medical Center is patient ready upon customer arrival.  

  1. *Collaborates with physician office staff to educate the patient/patient representative on preparation and understanding of scheduled procedure(s); clearly communicates instructions to patient and/or patient representative. 

  1. Provides recommendations and education to physician office staff commensurate with scope of practice in scheduling of procedure(s). 

  1. *Reviews and evaluates outpatient orders received from the physician and/or physician staff; uses clinical judgment /critical thinking to follow-up on appropriateness and completeness of physician orders as they relate to procedure(s) ordered. 

  1. *Receives and documents verbal physician orders. 

  1. Screens/determines appropriateness of level of care and admission status; notifies appropriate department(s) based on assessment of patient needs. 

  1. Enters order sets for procedures while coordinating with physician offices and performing departments. Reviews for accuracy to ensure all orders needed are entered and available.  

  1. Documents pre-certification/authorization/referral information when applicable. 

  1. *Prepares and provides patients with an estimate, if one is warranted, for their expected services.  Collects and/or counsels on expected payment due.  

  1. *Keeps Patient Service Center and Scheduling Manager informed of issues related to procedures including but not limited to: necessary questionnaire revisions, updates related to departmental requests and need for new or revised procedure(s) build. 

  1. *Responsible for preceptoring and /or resourcing of peers. 

  1.  *Assesses employee competencies and level of performance; cross trains employees into specialized areas and documents training.  

  1.  Collaborates with management to plan and communicate changes to the work group.  

  1. *Serves as a liaison in building and maintaining professional relationships between physicians, physician office staff and other health care personnel. 

  1. Maintains professional growth and development through seminars, workshops, and professional affiliations to keep abreast of latest trends in field of expertise. 

  1. Participates in meetings, committees and department projects as assigned. 

  1. Performs other related projects and duties as assigned.

EDUCATION AND EXPERIENCE: 

Current Registered licensure from the State of Nebraska or approved compact state of residence as defined by the Nebraska Nurse Practice Act.  Minimum of three (3) years nursing experience required. Experience with hospital/health operations and general background in all areas of nursing practice preferred.

RN-Outpatient Surgery

Summary Provides care in the outpatient services area directed toward meeting both the psychosocial and physical needs of the patient. Assesses, plans, implements and evaluates the care of patients undergoing invasive procedures in the outpatient surgery department. Communicates with physicians and/or anesthesia providers continuously and as needed about patient condition. Participates in performance improvement and CQI activities. Coordinates and supervises patient care. Gives care to the patient, reflecting flexibility in rules and regulations, as indicated by individual patient needs. Makes decisions reflecting knowledge of facts, knowledge of diseases/surgical conditions, care required and good judgment. Performance reflects knowledge in all areas of care specific to outpatient surgery (i.e., GI, autologous, conscious sedation). Manages and operates equipment safely and correctly. Electronic documentation meets current standards and policies. Organizes and manages nursing activities reflecting due consideration for patients’ needs and the needs of the facility and staff. Summary GENERAL SUMMARY: Assists physicians with examinations and procedures to serve the medical needs of patients with various health conditions in a professional, confidential, and caring manner. Coordinates the flow of patients, phone calls, lab work, and nurse visits to facilitate quality patient care and customer service goals. Provides professional nursing care as prescribed by the physician and in compliance with the Nebraska Nurse Practice Act, any applicable licensure/certification requirement and organizational policies and procedures.
