School Nurse (Licensed Practical Nurse) - Waukegan, IL

Step into a vital role supporting a student as a 1:1 school nurse with significant medical needs. This contract opportunity, conveniently located near Prospect Heights, IL, enables you to make a meaningful daily impact while working in a collaborative educational setting. Youll provide direct, compassionate care and ensure safety for a student who requires close medical attention throughout the school day.

Responsibilities include:

  • Delivering skilled nursing care, including tracheostomy management, g-tube feedings, and seizure monitoring/intervention as needed
  • Accompanying the student during school hours, including classroom participation and transitions
  • Monitoring and documenting vital signs, symptoms, and response to interventions
  • Administering prescribed medications and treatments according to individualized healthcare plans
  • Communicating regularly with parents, educators, and healthcare providers to coordinate comprehensive care
  • Maintaining an organized and sanitary workspace while adhering to state and district guidelines for student health
  • Responding promptly and effectively to emergent situations

Qualifications:

  • Active LPN, LVN, or RN licensure in Illinois
  • Experience with tracheostomies, g-tubes, and seizure care in pediatric or school settings preferred
  • Exceptional observation, communication, and problem-solving skills
  • Ability to remain calm, professional, and focused in fast-changing situations
  • Current CPR/BLS certification

In this position, youll work closely with school staff and the students family, building positive relationships while providing expert medical support. The hourly pay for this opportunity ranges from $30-35, reflecting the critical nature and specialized skills required.
