General Description: An OU Health Registered Nurse (RN) II works under general supervision and provides nursing care in a hospital setting to a variety of patients with health problems ranging from simple to complex. They are a critical link within their department in maintaining and modeling nursing practice standards and upholding the nursing code of ethics to ensure the highest quality of safe, patient care. RN II represents the competent nurse who meets expectations outlined in the baseline job description while advancing to proficiency.  Experience in similar situations allows this nurse to use conscious and deliberate planning resulting in efficiency and organization. They can cope with contingencies and changes in situations. They are able to care for complex patients requiring a high level of technical and clinical skills.  They work faster and more efficiently, and are team focused, becoming more astute in complex problem solving. 

Essential Responsibilities

  • Aligns behaviors with OU Health values and maintains nursing professional practice standards.
  • Assumes responsibility for an assigned patient or group of patients.
  • Documents patient responses to nursing interventions and prescribed medical treatments, noting all changes in physician order on assigned patients.
  • Assists physician in the examination of patients and in performing minor diagnostic procedures and treatment.
  • Obtains and monitors physiological data of patients, observes the physiological manifestations of patients, and intervenes when necessary.
  • Administers medication as prescribed.
  • Initiates, regulates and monitors intravenous infusions and blood products.
  • Delivers patient care competently; seeks coaching and mentoring from others as needed.
  • Resolves patient complaints in a timely manner in accordance with policy and in collaboration with support staff.
  • Informs patient and family of hospital procedures and shares care plan during the time of care and at the time of discharge.
  • Makes referrals regarding patient care needs to appropriate personnel.
  • Fosters a growth mindset through seeking mentorship, remaining open to coaching and feedback, and maintaining professional certification(s)/licensure in order to perpetually develop and uphold the skills required for proficiency within the nursing profession.

Minimum Qualifications

Education:  Associate's or Bachelor's Degree in Nursing.

Experience:  3-5 years of experience in patient care as a Registered Nurse required.

License/Certification/Registration:

  • Current Registered Nurse License (RN License issued by the Oklahoma State Board of Nursing, or a current multistate compact Registered Nurse (eNLC)).
  • Basic Life Support (American Heart Association) certification required upon hire.
  • Specialty certification(s) preferred.

Director of Nursing

Norman Regional Health System and Oceans Healthcare have partnered to expand access to behavioral health services in south central Oklahoma through construction of a new, state-of-the-art behavioral hospital. Behavioral Health Center at Porter Health Village, a 48-bed facility, will more that double Norman Regional Health System’s inpatient capacity for adult and senior behavioral health patients and add new services, including an intensive outpatient program and a dedicated geriatric behavioral health unit. The freestanding hospital will be located on the Norman Regional Porter campus and replace the existing 20-bed behavioral health unit. The Director, Nursing is responsible for upholding the standards of nursing care as established by the Nurse Practice Act, Psychiatric Standards of Nursing, policy and procedures, and all other external governing and credentialing bodies. The Director of Nursing directs the staff and operation of the Nursing Department at all facility locations; coordinates, plans and manages nursing activities; formulates nursing program goals and objectives; manages nursing positions; evaluates staff; assists in the management of the nursing budget; maintains contacts with individuals both within and outside of the department who might impact on program activities; participates in recruitment and retention programs; determines the quality of nursing care; participates in performance improvement programs; collaborates with clinical instructors for educational programs; represents the Nursing Department in professional and/or community organizations; demonstrates age specific and cultural sensitivity. Ensures staff compliance with patient care, documentation, hospital/unit policies and procedures, protocols, and guidelines; Ensures appropriate nursing staff for each unit to meet patient needs. Directs appropriate training activities for all nursing employees as well as assurance of proper current licensure, continuing education, CPR, and an Oceans Healthcare approved behavioral health de-escalation program; participates in orientation of new and current nursing staff. Performs other duties and projects as assigned.
