Job Summary and Qualifications

As a PACU Registered Nurse, you will play a critical role in the immediate post-operative care of surgical patients. Your responsibilities will include managing airway support, closely monitoring neurological and cardiac status, and responding promptly to any complications or side effects. You will provide initial wound care to the patients’ surgical site and ensure patient stability during recovery. You will collaborate with the surgical and anesthesia team. This role includes on-call availability during select non-business hours which will be discussed in the interview.

Your Role on the Team Position Summary The PACU nurse will collaborate with the Dept. of Anesthesiology and Perioperative Care and other surgical and interdisciplinary teams to develop and implement a plan of care for a specific group of assigned patients. Performs professional nursing duties that incorporate the psychomotor and age appropriate cognitive skills of the patient/family/significant other to assess, plan, intervene and advocate for the patient on an ongoing basis throughout the post anesthesia period. Will evaluate patient outcomes, effectiveness of plan of care, and readiness for discharge from PACU. Acts as a role model and mentor to a variety of students and nurses new to the unit. Functions as a (PCC) Patient Care Coordinator as requested by the supervisor/manager. Required Qualifications What It Takes to be Successful Must possess a minimum of 2 year current PACU experience and 2 years ICU experience in a critical care unit. Must be willing to work a flexible schedule, including weekends, and on call after hours as needed Must be able to participate in on call rotation and work occasional weekends & evenings Current PALS certification or Must be obtained within 90 days of employment All external candidates must have a Bachelor of Science in Nursing Ability to work variable shifts including evenings, nights, weekends, and holidays Ability to read, write and communicate effectively in English Ability to maintain flexibility and work well in a fast paced, constantly changing environment Ability to maintain a work pace appropriate to the workload Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships across the Health System Preferred Qualifications Prior experience in a Level I Trauma Center and/or Academic Medical Center Knowledge of Title 22 and Joint Commission Requirements Greater than two years of demonstrated nursing experience in a critical care or post anesthesia unit Demonstrated experience working in a Level 1 Trauma Center Current CPAN, CAPA, CCRN certifications Bilingual skills to communicate effectively with patients and families Licenses And Certifications Registered Nurse Certified Peri-Anesthetist RN Basic Life Support Advanced Cardiac Life Support Education Total Rewards We offer a wealth of benefits to make working at UCI even more rewarding.
