
Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) - School Health Services
Location: Olympia, Lacey, and Yelm Area, WA
Position Type: Full-Time, School-Year Position
Schedule: 6.5 Hours per Day, Monday-Friday, Following the School Calendar
Reports To: School Principal and/or District Health Services Coordinator
Position Summary
We are seeking a caring, dependable, and student-focused Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) to provide nursing support services throughout the school year. The LPN will play a vital role in promoting student health, supporting academic success, and maintaining a safe school environment. This position works closely with students, families, school staff, and healthcare providers to address student health needs and ensure compliance with health-related requirements.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Provide direct nursing care, first aid, and health support to students and staff.
- Administer medications and treatments in accordance with physician orders, state regulations, and school policies.
- Monitor and support students with chronic medical conditions, including asthma, diabetes, seizure disorders, and severe allergies.
- Assist with the implementation of Individualized Healthcare Plans (IHPs), 504 Plans, and IEP-related health services.
- Maintain accurate student health records and documentation.
- Communicate professionally with parents, guardians, healthcare providers, and school personnel regarding student health concerns.
- Assist with student health screenings, immunization tracking, and communicable disease prevention efforts.
- Respond appropriately to medical emergencies and activate emergency response procedures when necessary.
- Maintain confidentiality of student records and health information.
- Support health education and wellness initiatives within the school community.
- Perform other related duties as assigned.
Minimum Qualifications
- Current Washington State Licensed Practical Nurse (LPN) license in good standing.
- Graduate of an accredited Practical Nursing program.
- Current CPR/AED and First Aid certification.
- Ability to work effectively with children, families, and school personnel.
- Excellent communication, organizational, and documentation skills.
- Knowledge of basic nursing practices, infection control procedures, and medication administration
- Previous experience in a school, pediatric, community health, or public health setting.
- Experience working with students with special healthcare needs.
- Familiarity with electronic medical records and student information systems.
- Bilingual skills are encouraged and welcomed.
Physical Requirements
- Ability to move throughout school buildings and grounds.
- Ability to lift and assist students when necessary.
- Ability to respond quickly to emergency situations.
