Special Procedures Nurse, Full-Time, Evenings

As a Special Procedures Nurse, you will provide goal-directed nursing care that is individualized to the needs of patients and families during health and illness.

Under the direction of an attending physician or licensed independent practitioner, the RN provides technically complex nursing care for patients undergoing specialized procedures. Responsibilities include moderate sedation, intravenous infusions, specialized monitoring during procedures and recovery, comprehensive patient assessment, documentation, patient education, and collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to ensure safe, high-quality care. The RN may also serve as Charge Nurse for the assigned unit.

• Provides compassionate, patient-centered nursing care while incorporating age-specific considerations and collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to meet patients' physical, psychological, social, and spiritual needs.
• Accurately completes patient assessments, documentation, and clinical interpretations while exercising sound nursing judgment and communicating significant changes in patient condition.
• Recognizes changes in patient status requiring immediate intervention and initiates appropriate life-support measures while collaborating with physicians and the healthcare team.
• Maintains nursing equipment, work areas, and supplies while ensuring emergency equipment is available and functioning properly.
• Delivers exceptional customer service by utilizing AIDET principles and demonstrating flexibility in meeting patient and family needs.
• Completes all required quality assurance testing in accordance with UChicago Medicine standards.
• Assists with patient flow and staffing needs by rotating to clinical areas as needed and safely transporting sedated patients to designated recovery locations.

Required Qualifications

• Associate Degree in Nursing; BSN preferred.
• Associate Degree nurses must enroll in a BSN program within six (6) to nine (9) months of hire and complete the BSN within thirty (30) months.
• Graduate of an accredited school of nursing.
• Current Illinois Registered Nurse license.

Preferred Qualifications

• Leadership or Charge Nurse experience within the specialty area.
• Experience working in a procedural or research environment.
• Two (2) years of recent Critical Care experience.
• Specialty certification in the applicable clinical area.

Required Licenses/Certifications

• Current Illinois Registered Nurse license.
• Current BLS certification.
• Current ACLS and/or PALS certification, as applicable.

Registered Nurse, Pediatric Sedation - Full-Time Days

Join us At the Forefront, at UChicago Medicine , as a Registered Nurse in the Pediatric Sedation Unit . The Pediatric Sedation Registered Nurse , in collaboration with and under the direction of a credentialed sedation physician, provides safe, evidence-based minimal, moderate, and deep procedural sedation and analgesia for infants, children, adolescents, and young adults undergoing diagnostic and therapeutic procedures throughout the medical center. Guided by patient- and family-centered care principles and professional nursing standards. The pediatric sedation registered professional nurse independently assesses, plans, implements, and evaluates all phases of sedation care, including pre-sedation assessment, sedation administration, physiologic monitoring, recovery management, discharge readiness evaluation, and emergency intervention. The Pediatric Sedation Registered Nurse provides specialized care for medically complex, critically ill, and high-acuity pediatric patients across multiple medical and surgical subspecialties, including Pediatric Intensive Care, Neonatal Intensive Care, Pediatric Emergency Medicine, Pediatric Surgery, Cardiac Surgery, Trauma Surgery, Otolaryngology, Orthopedic Surgery, Neurosurgery, Plastic Surgery, and Burn Surgery.
