Interventional Radiology Nurse - MMH Interventional Radiology - FT 1.0 (80 hrs biweekly) (72187)

In an environment of continuous quality improvement, the Interventional Radiology (IR) Nurse provides specialized nursing care to patients undergoing invasive and image-guided procedures, including patient preparation, moderate sedation, physiologic monitoring, recovery, and education. The position supports Interventional Radiology and Diagnostic Imaging services across routine, extended-hour, weekend, on-call, and emergency operations, including CT, MRI, Ultrasound, Fluoroscopy, cardiac procedures, and other imaging modalities as needed. The IR Nurse serves as a clinical resource for complex procedures, promotes procedural readiness and patient safety, and ensures compliance with applicable clinical, regulatory, radiation, contrast, infection prevention, and accreditation standards. This position provides flexible coverage across all organizational locations to meet operational and patient care needs and ensure consistent access to high-quality interventional, cardiology, and diagnostic services. Job Functions:

  1. Completes documentation of care provided to patients within the department.
  2. Administers medications including conscious sedation; handles emergent patient care issues.
  3. Provides patient recovery and education after invasive procedures.
  4. Call rotation for Interventional Radiology Procedures.
  5. Provides nursing coverage across Diagnostic Imaging services to ensure appropriate clinical support for Interventional Radiology, CT, MRI, Ultrasound, Fluoroscopy, and other imaging modalities during routine operations, after-hours, weekends, and emergency situations.
  6. Supports operational readiness for Interventional Radiology services, including extended hours, on-call coverage, emergent procedural response, and resource coordination for time-sensitive interventions. Coordinates specialty supply and equipment management by monitoring procedural inventory, specialty devices, and supply utilization to support uninterrupted clinical operations.
  7. Provides procedural nursing care for Interventional Radiology patients, including invasive procedures, moderate sedation, physiologic monitoring, and post-procedure recovery in accordance with organizational standards.
  8. Maintains procedural readiness for high-acuity patient care by ensuring appropriate response to procedural emergencies, including hemorrhage, airway compromise, contrast reactions, and other procedure-related complications.
  9. Serves as a clinical resource and consultant for complex Interventional Radiology procedures, specialty nursing practice, and procedural problem-solving.
  10. Ensures compliance with specialty practice standards, regulatory requirements, and accreditation standards applicable to Diagnostic Imaging and Interventional Radiology services, including radiation safety, contrast safety, infection prevention, and procedural quality.
  11. Monitors specialty-specific clinical and operational performance indicators to identify opportunities for improving procedural quality, patient safety, access, throughput, and patient outcomes.
  12. Coordinates patient progression throughout the Interventional Radiology care continuum by facilitating efficient patient preparation, procedural readiness, recovery, discharge planning, and coordination with emergency, inpatient, and outpatient services.
  13. Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as necessary.

Minimum Education/Experience Required:

  • Current licensure in the State of Ohio as a Registered Nurse required.
  • Minimum of 1 year critical care/telemetry experience required.
  • BLS and ACLS certification required. 
  • Must live within 45 minutes from hospital.
  • Maintains compliance in RQI required.

 

Special Knowledge, Skills, Training:

  • Verbal, clerical, numerical, and manual dexterity, color vision and near visual acuity.

In an environment of continuous quality improvement, the Registered Nurse is responsible for providing nursing care within the Nursing Scope of Practice in the State of Ohio guidelines. Functions as a vital member of the diagnostic imaging healthcare team who contributes to the success of MHS by demonstrating patient centricity, effective communication, professionalism, and teamwork. Utilizes the nursing process to assess, plan, implement, and evaluate comprehensive care provided to selected patient populations and their families. Performs cardiac stress testing under the supervision of a physician. Demonstrates progression to recognize situational changes that require unplanned or unanticipated interventions, and responds to situations with confidence, timeliness and flexibility. Exhibits the MHS Standards of Excellence and exercises strict confidentiality at all times. Job Functions: Works in conjunction with Nuclear Medicine Technologists in performing Cardiac Stress Tests. Completes documentation of care provided to patients within the department that includes but is not limited to collecting patient history and physical review to include current medication records and allergies and reviews laboratory data for abnormal or usual results prior to administration of any medication. Assists in building Nursing Policies for diagnostic procedures to maintain patient and staff safety. Administers medications; handles emergent patient care issues. Responsible for implementing the philosophy, objectives, standards of care, policies, and procedures of Cardiac Services under the supervision of a Cardiologist and Medical Director of Diagnostic Imaging. Direct assessments, evaluation and monitoring for all patients undergoing any cardiac stress testing in the Cardiac Diagnostic Stress Lab. Assuring informed consent as allowed by nursing licensure and hospital policy and obtaining all necessary patient signatures. Confers with the physician as needed based on the medical status of the patient. Works closely with the medical, nursing, and ancillary staff of the system to provide quality and safe care. Maintains compliance in annual Radiation training. Maintains strict confidentiality at all times. Maintains compliance in RQI. Assumes all other duties and responsibilities as necessary. Minimum Education/Experience Required: Current licensure in the State of Ohio as a Registered Nurse required. BLS and ACLS certification required. Minimum of 1 year critical care experience required. If previous stress lab experience, Observation RN must provide evidence of performing at least 50 stress tests within the last 2 years.
