Position Summary

The Procedure Room Medical Assistant supports the safe, efficient delivery of specialized diagnostic and procedural services within an electrophysiology clinic. Working under the direction of licensed clinical staff and providers, this position prepares patients and procedure rooms, assists with noninvasive cardiac testing and ambulatory monitoring workflows, documents care accurately, and promotes a coordinated, patient-centered experience. The Medical Assistant recognizes and promptly communicates changes in patient condition while performing all duties within established competencies, clinic protocols, and scope of practice.

Essential Position Responsibilities

• Prepare procedure and testing rooms before each patient encounter; clean and disinfect equipment, stock supplies, and verify that required equipment is available and functioning properly.
• Greet and identify patients, review the planned service, obtain and document vital signs, and reconcile medications, allergies, and relevant medical history according to clinic protocols.
• Prepare patients for electrophysiology-related diagnostic procedures and testing by providing instructions, assisting with gowning and positioning, maintaining privacy, and applying monitoring equipment as directed.
• Assist with tilt-table testing, including room setup, patient preparation and positioning, baseline measurements, monitoring support, and post-test recovery activities under the direction of licensed clinical staff.
• Prepare patients for treadmill exercise stress testing, including skin preparation, ECG electrode placement, acquisition of baseline measurements, and assistance to the supervising clinician throughout testing and recovery.
• Observe patients before, during, and after testing; recognize and immediately report symptoms, abnormal vital signs, rhythm changes, or other safety concerns to the supervising nurse, provider, or appropriate clinical team member.
• Apply, activate, and remove ambulatory cardiac monitors, including Holter, event, mobile cardiac telemetry, and patch monitors, as ordered and within demonstrated competency.
• Educate patients and caregivers regarding monitor use, symptom recording, skin care, activity precautions, troubleshooting, device return, and when to contact the clinic.
• Manage monitor inventory and related workflows, including device assignment, enrollment, return tracking, data routing, and follow-up on overdue or incomplete studies.
• Support clinic workflow by rooming patients, preparing records and orders, coordinating diagnostic appointments, responding to patient messages, and assisting with referrals or prior authorizations as assigned.
• Document patient preparation, vital signs, education, device information, procedure support, and other assigned clinical activities accurately and promptly in the electronic health record.
• Maintain readiness for urgent clinical events by following emergency procedures, confirming access to emergency supplies, and assisting the licensed clinical team during a patient emergency as directed.
• Follow infection prevention, medication safety, patient identification, privacy, equipment safety, and other regulatory and organizational requirements.
• Collaborate with electrophysiology providers, nurses, technicians, scheduling staff, and other team members to support timely care and continuity across the patient experience.
• Perform other clinical and administrative duties within the Medical Assistant’s training, demonstrated competency, and scope of practice as assigned.

Qualifications

• Education: High school diploma or GED required. Completion of an accredited Medical Assistant program preferred.
• Licensure and Certifications: Current CPR or Basic Life Support certification required. Medical Assistant certification or registration preferred where applicable.
• Experience: Two years of Medical Assistant experience preferred. Experience in cardiology, electrophysiology, procedural care, cardiac monitoring, or diagnostic testing is strongly preferred.
• Knowledge and Skills: Basic knowledge of cardiac terminology, vital-sign measurement, ECG electrode placement, infection prevention, patient safety, and electronic health record documentation preferred. Must demonstrate attention to detail, sound communication skills, and the ability to recognize and promptly escalate changes in patient condition.
• Ability to stand for extended periods and assist patients with safe positioning, transfers, and mobility, with or without reasonable accommodation.

Work Environment: This position will spend 80% of time standing and/or walking while pushing, pulling, lifting, and/or carrying up to 50 pounds. This position will spend 20% of time sitting while performing work in a standard office environment.
