PreOperative/Post Operative Care Unit (PACU) Summary

 

  • 22 bed Phase I & Phase II PACU
  • Variety of Post-Op patients (Ortho & neuro surgery, OB/GYN, Plastics, Gender Affirmation, Robotics, everything except open heart and transplant cases)
  • Excellent teamwork and fun environment
  • Lower turnover
  • Part of our state-of-the-art surgical pavilion, which opened in 8/2020
  • Lower call frequency
  • Ability to be cross-trained to PreOp

 

Available Roles

 

  • PACU Full Time Evenings/Nights- 36 hours per week 
  • PreOp/PACU Part Time Days - 32 hours per week
  • PreOp/PACU Part Time Days- 24 hours per week

 

Schedules

 

  • Full Time 36 hours per week: two days 11 AM to 11:30 PM & one day 7P to 7A. Call every 5th weekend. 
  • Part Time 32 hours per week: 4 eight-hour shifts varying PreOp & Phase II with Call. PreOp - 6a-1430; PACU 11-1930 or 930-1800. Limited call - average of 5 weekend call shifts per year.
  • Part Time 24 hours per week: two 12-hour shifts plus call 0600-1830

Key Responsibilities

 

As a Clinical Nurse, you will provide skilled, compassionate care to patients and families across a spectrum of needs—from routine to highly complex. You will assess evolving patient conditions, identify actual and potential health concerns, and develop appropriate care plans. Interventions may be delivered directly or coordinated through collaboration with other members of the nursing team

 

Qualifications

 

  • ADN, BSN, MSN, or CNL from an accredited School of Nursing required.
  • For full-time roles, at least 1 year of RN experience required. 2+ years of Critical Care or ED RN experience strongly preferred. Experience with vents a plus. 
  • Active MD RN License or Active Compact State RN and Basic Life Support for Healthcare providers required (AHA or American Red Cross). ACLS, PALS preferred or PALS within 6 months after hire.
This position has a hiring range of : USD $37.10 - USD $56.91 /Hr.

Assess patient’s preoperative and postoperative status at intervals according to facility or health care organization policies and procedures to include the patient’s cardiovascular system, respiratory system and airway management needs, neurological system, hemodynamic stability, pain and comfort needs, and mental status. Interpret information accurately from various noninvasive and invasive monitors. Describe the underlying pathophysiology of commonly encountered disease processes. Describe the physiology associated with various anesthesia techniques and surgical or procedural interventions. Apply the relevant scoring system/discharge criteria for patient transfer ( e.g. , Aldrete Score, Modified Aldrete Score [ i.e. , PARSAP], Post Anesthesia Discharge Scoring System [PADSS], White) score accurately as defined by organizational policy. Develop an individualized perianesthesia plan of care. Implement the plan of care including the following interventions: Preparing for and managing patient recovery from anesthesia – general. Preparing for and managing patient recovery from anesthesia – monitored anesthesia care. Preparing for and managing patient recovery from anesthesia – regional. Preparing for and managing patient recovery from anesthesia – local. Preparing for and protecting patient from injury caused by positioning, thermal sources, and extraneous objects.
