36 hr/week

Provides nursing care through assessment, planning, implementation, and evaluation. Directs and leads other assigned team members, collaborating with multidisciplinary teams to provide age/developmentally appropriate care. Provides patient-centered care addressing physical, emotional, cultural, religious, and environmental needs. Conducts assessments, develops nursing diagnoses, identifies outcomes, plans and implements interventions, provides health teaching, and evaluates care. Ensures a therapeutic environment and participates in professional governance and development. Correctional-specific responsibilities include:

• Delivering nursing care to inmates/detainees while following correctional facility safety and security protocols.

• Responding promptly to emergencies anywhere within the secure perimeter (medical emergencies, injuries, suicide attempts, etc.).

• Managing care in intake/booking, general population, segregation, and medical observation units.

• Coordinating with correctional officers for safe inmate movement and maintaining awareness of the security environment.

• Maintaining strict control and accountability of sharps, medications, and clinical tools.

• Ensuring proper boundaries, communication standards, and compliance with PREA expectations.

• Documenting care in accordance with correctional medical record requirements and chain-of-custody considerations when applicable.


Minimum Education and Experience:

Bachelor of Nursing preferred. RN staff hired after July 1, 2013 with an Associate or Diploma degree must be enrolled in a BSN program within two years and complete it within four years. Minimum one year of RN experience required.


Required Licensure, Certifications, Registrations:

Licensure as an RN by the South Carolina Board of Nursing or a compact state. Current AHA BLS or Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers required

Additional Job Description

Graduate from an accredited Practical Nurse program with six months of patient care experience required. Licensed as an LPN within the state of South Carolina or a compact state. A current CPR card is required; either an American Heart Association Basic Life Support (BLS) for Healthcare Providers card or an American Red Cross Professional Rescuer card. Ability to demonstrate commitment to patient centered care philosophy as evidenced by effective communications skills, professional demeanor, and excellent interpersonal skills. Ability and motivation to articulate and support departmental philosophy of excellent guest relations. Must communicate effectively both verbally and in writing. Must be computer literate. Current American Heart Association (AHA) Basic Life Support (BLS) certification or American Red Cross BLS for Healthcare Providers certification is required

Your responsibilities will include: -Providing patient- and family-centered care while serving as a trusted partner and resource. -Supporting patients and families as they manage their healthcare needs while respecting their culture, values, health goals, and treatment preferences. -Applying critical thinking and sound clinical judgment to support timely and appropriate patient care. -Recognizing and reporting changes in a patient’s condition to the appropriate clinical provider. -Assisting physicians and other medical professionals with patient preparation, examinations, treatments, and procedures. -Interviewing and screening patients to collect personal information, medical history, symptoms, and chief complaints. -Obtaining and documenting vital signs and other required clinical information. -Performing telephone and in-person patient screenings. -Accurately documenting patient care, clinical findings, and relevant information in the medical record. -Reviewing patient concerns with the appropriate provider when treatment guidance, medication instructions, or changes to the plan of care may be required. -Responding to and prioritizing patient telephone calls regarding symptoms, medications, medical conditions, and other clinical concerns, as assigned. -Preparing, cleaning, and stocking examination rooms and assigned clinical areas. -Maintaining a safe, organized, and welcoming environment for patients and team members. -Performing additional duties within the Licensed Practical Nurse’s authorized scope of practice, as assigned.
