Overview The Director, Nursing Services is accountable for the overall administration of the department in order to meet the objectives of the hospital through planning, organizing, executing and evaluating the nursing care provided for patients in the hospital. Responsibilities Manage the department efficiently through the planning, organization, and control of all departmental activities. Formulate and implement departmental objectives in accordance with hospital goals. Determine staffing needs and patterns and recommend appropriate staffing levels and classifications consistent with approved staffing plans. Administer bargaining agreements at the local level for Nursing Services personnel. Coordinate the activities of nursing units and establish productive working relationships with the medical staff and support services. Maintain current knowledge of developments in nursing and healthcare and recommend new services, products, and equipment as appropriate. Participate in continuing education programs designed for nursing leaders. Provide direct patient care when advanced skills and judgment are required and demonstrate the knowledge and skills necessary to provide age-appropriate care. Adhere to hospital infection prevention and control policies and procedures. Prepare departmental budgets, routine and special reports, and other required forms and documents. Take administrative call responsibilities when delegated by the Administrator. Serve on hospital committees and attend meetings as required. Work off-shifts, weekends, holidays, on-call assignments, and additional hours as necessary. Perform other related duties as assigned. Qualifications Required Education Graduate of an approved school of nursing. Current, unrestricted nursing license in the applicable state required. Preferred Education Bachelor's degree preferred. Required Experience Minimum of five (5) years of experience in nursing supervision and/or administration. Formal training and/or experience in effective management techniques required. Required Skills, Knowledge, and Abilities Demonstrated leadership skills. Ability to motivate individuals and teams. Ability to work cooperatively and effectively with individuals and groups. Director of Nursing Services Supplemental Staffing

Overview The Director of Nursing Services has direct responsibility for the supplemental staffing team department. Hasoverall accountability for the quality of patient care, the monitoring of performance of the nursing staff, and thedevelopment and management of the budget. Oversees and directs departmental management in theorientation, education, and development of the staff in order to establish the knowledge and skills necessary toprovide care appropriate to the age of the patients served. Contributes to nursing and ARH in support ofphilosophy and objectives and education efforts.
