Nurse Practitioner or Physician Assistant Oncology

Swedish Cancer Institute (SCI) is seeking a full-time, experienced Oncology nurse practitioner or physician assistant to join its team. In this role, you will function as an Oncology provider imbedded within a busy cancer center/infusion center, which has an additional research-focused infusion area. Candidates will be expected to manage urgent oncology situations and provide real time nurse/patient education about cancer therapies and diagnoses with physician support. Practitioners in the SCI Treatment Center will also be responsible to triage patients from Oncology clinics via an Immediate Care Clinic which is imbedded within the Treatment Center. The APP is a nurse practitioner or certified physician assistant who will provide care for patients receiving immunotherapy and cellular therapies as well as standard admissions for chemotherapy or toxicities of treatment/underlying disease. The APP is responsible for the primary care of the patient as part of a collaborative multidisciplinary team led by an attending physician. Responsibilities include obtain medical history, perform physical examinations, review and order diagnostic studies, radiographs and prescribe treatments. Responsibilities Works as part on an interdisciplinary team on the inpatient wards at UWMC working 12 hour rotating shifts to cover 7 days per week. Performs complex and problem-focused H & P’s; rounds daily with team and attending physician. Evaluates and manages all aspects of care for medical oncology and hematology inpatients. Performs procedures (bone marrow, LP, etc.) according to licensure, credentialing, and scope of practice Collaborates and consults with other disciplines and services Communicates changes and transitions from inpatient to outpatient in a seamless fashion and communicates changes in patient’s health status or urgent patient issues to the patient’s primary oncology team. Participates in patient rounds, conferences and committees Actively participates in clinical aspects of research trials Documents patient care data in accordance with the FHCC and UWP policies Other duties as assigned Qualifications Required: Strong team player with a can-do attitude is a must! Ability to work as part of a multi-disciplinary team is essential. Must be a graduate of an accredited Physician Assistant or Nurse Practitioner program. Washington state & DEA licensure required. ACLS required within 6 months of start date. Strong oral and written communication skills required. The ARNP/PA-C is a certified physician assistant or advanced registered nurse practitioner who provides evaluation and medical management to GI Oncology patients and patients at Fred Hutch Cancer Center. They follow patients during their chemotherapy, post operative care, provide medical supportive care, and surveillance after completion of treatment. The ARNP/PA-C assesses and manages basic health needs of patients, addresses treatment toxicities, performs procedures, monitors for cancer progression or recurrence, and consults with professional peers as needed. They work collaboratively with the treatment team to coordinate care of their patients. All clinical responsibilities are performed within the scope of practice, institutional privileges and under the supervision of an attending physician. A Fred Hutch Cancer Center ARNP/PA-C is a certified physician assistant or advanced registered nurse practitioner who provides evaluation and medical management of multiple service lines of adult oncology patients at our community site at Northwest Hospital. They will actively coordinate the complex care of cancer patients undergoing both systemic anti-cancer therapy and radiation therapy. The incumbent will manage side-effects of these therapies, order appropriate laboratory and radiographic studies; prescribe medications and refer patient to other specialists as necessary. The incumbent may provide for post-treatment cancer patients follow-up visits for the medically indicated period after completion of treatment. The incumbent will also provide psychological support to patients by participating in patient and/or family teaching and refer patients to community agencies and other resources to promote optimal adjustment and functioning. This position requires the ability to lead other clinical staff, be accountable for the work required in this position, the ability to be flexible in a dynamic environment, and the relentless pursuit of excellent patient centered care. This clinic provides a broad range of services including GI, Lung, GU, Breast, and Hematologic Malignancies and Radiation therapy.
